'!..tOCTOS,' enthusiasts, particularly thOS<' entertaining thoughts of racing, have had several good reference items - the most notable IM:ing the now RVttal year old effort by Gary Bailey. But Bailey's book be:came a dated item as machine quicltly and surely required milk crate as mounting _islS. The Lackey/Weed tome is so up to date it prompted one staffer to point· out a picture of Roger DeCoster's :leading link front end Suzuki and comment, "Wowl They have better pictures of that in a book then we've been able to get (prior to the Carlsbad GP), Both the wards and photos in the book are excellent and the large amount of photos makes the book a motocrosser's delight even if said motocrosser has his act totally together, The 226-page paperback book's large format, 8 ~ .. x 11", allows room for sizeable photos, and there are 400 black and white gems spread throughout the book. Many came from the cameras of long-time Cycle News contributor and former staffer. Jimmy "The Greek" Gianatsis. Weed, in the opening chapter entitled "Writer anI! rider," gives credit to the many people who assisted in the aasmlbling of the words and photos. . We panicu1arly liked his paragraph on Jimmy Weinert, ..... the 'grand old ,man' of Ammcan motocross, offered some strategy gems and Jambone jargon, held up Brad's bike and sang JiOogs. "" The inst~tion portion of the book 'runs the gamut of motocross frdm the history of the sport through the mental .attitude required and even include a chapter entitled, "Saving .and crashing."
