Hadl~, Guth and Sofka were all riding on the edge trying for some small advantage over their competitors as the moto wound down to its conclusion. Gibson took the win with a lead even bigger than t~ flJllt moto to clinch t~ overall. Hadley hung on to second place and second overall as Guth held off Sofka to finish third and take ~ the show position money. An excellent battle for victory in the Open Pro class featured Suzuki rider Scott Cavness. Yamaha-mounted Mark Lawrence and eventual winner Warren Reid aboard the new RC450. Reid won the first moto ahead of fast charging Cavness and close behind Lawrence. In the second moto Reid was forced to work up from a near last place start to catch early leader Lawrence and then power after new leader Cavness, overtaking the Suzuki rider when he feU in a slow tum. Reid went on to finish first with Lawrence taking home the second place mon~ and Cavness finished third after falling again and letting Lawrence by. Chappy Blose swept both 125cc Pro races riding smoothly and quickly. Meyer, wbo bad been plagued by mechanical misfortunes this spring, put together two wire-to·wire efforts as he withstood the challenges of first Scott Anderson and then Dennis Curtis to coast in for the win over steady riding Chuck Mauratb after both Anderson and Curtis had their troubles. In spite of the large field of "tigers" in the 125cc Intermediates, smoothriding Antonacci had no trouble at all in going two straight and was actually only out of the lead for about a halflap of the first molO. In both motos though, a late charge carried Gary Graham into a challenging second place.
