force winds were raging behind him.
But after starting 14th, berserko was the
name of the game for the Typhoon. Dipping liberally into his CR's plentiful power
reserves, he scratched, elbowed and
whiteknuckJed his way to the front by lap
16. From there, it was a not-so-simple
matter of riding flawlessly to the finish. .
And that's what happened June 17 in
Sonoma, Califomia at the Sears Point 250
cc MX Nationals. Marty "Typhoon" Tripes
climbed on a modified production Honda
CR250R and blew everyone awayincluding a formidable array of exotic factory
machines. And he did it the hard way.

Tripes rocketed through a four-way
skirmish on lap 13 to set the pace the
rest of the way-even though hurricane-

sidehills, pinched lanes and off-eamber
tums, topped off with hard-baked, traction-

defying clay. Passing here, they say, is
strictly for the berserkos.
They say that when the typhoon starts
blowing, all the other winds blow ill. Even
the hurricane.
