Twenty minutes into the second moto with a
strong lead secure in hand, Marty Tripes slowed
his Honda to a snail's pace, allowing Bob Hannah to pass without challenge and win his
second moto of the day. Only the
week before at Sears Point,
Tripes had proven he could beat
H~nnah when he wanted to.

of the '~MA ~50cc National Motocross
ChampIOnshIps.
In the 500cc class of the first
National motocross ever· held in
Colorado,
and
at
Lakewood
Sportcycle Park, Team Yamaha's
Mike Bell took back-to-back moto
victories to give his sponsors a clean
sweep of t,he Super Seer sponsore~
event. For 'Daddy LongLegs" Bell It
was a hard sought win after the
disappointment at the ·Carlsbad GP
two weeks earlier where he was forced
out of his lead in the race from heat
fatigue. Bell was definitely the best
conditioned rider in the Open class
today.
