Archie Clark Memorial donates bucksto hemophilia fund By Ann Carr LODI,CA,MAY27 Lodi's Cycle Bowl and club hosted the 13th annual Archie Clark Memorial Scrambles and netted over $1,000 for AMA's drive to help conquer hemophilia. Several hundred spectators watched over 200 scramblers p'articipate for extra Semi Pro bucks and snazzy brass provided by Jackie Griffith from Pioneer Arena. American Motorcycle Association sportsman rider of the year Doug Chandler from Salinas Kawasaki and current black plate leader Kim Jorgensen from Jorgy's in Stockton dominated the Mini and Maxi Expert ranks. Doug bested Chris Carr in both the 80cc main and the Mini King Race: both hardfought contests saw the two way out in front of the rest of the pack. Kurt Chandler nailed Vance Sherfield at the tree on the last lap to capture the 100cc Expert main. Novice Kevin Bricker capped off a three race victory weekend by gTabbing his third main win in the 80cc class. Kim jorgensen's Can-Am machines grabbed the lion's share of the purse tonight with 250cc, 500cc, and plate race wins. Kim hounded Kiser Brothers ace Dennis Kritzer for II of the 12 laps in the TV Service Center black plate go, and then dashed by on the last lap for the win. Wins in the other mains allowed Kim to gain valuable plate points over Mark Key and Richard Arnaiz who have been creeping clo~r of la te. John Tavis returned after a long layoff and zapped the Open Expert crew with Eric Weisler finishing second. Johnny Pittman also returned to victory circle with a win over Jim Mahoney and David Boyles in the 360cc contest. In other sportsman action Silio Fabbri of San Francisco won the 360cc and 500cc Novice mains while \he Hou~r brothers, David and Dennis, topped the 250cc Junior and Novice frays. The hotly contested 360cc Junior main ended in controversy with winner Malfani accused of shortening the cou= by going outside tires in the righthander. Officials ruled no advantage to Dan and the win was recognized. • Joe Knight, disappointed by an unfortunate knockdown at the tree in the 250cc Expert main, climbed aboard his cousin Tommy's sanitary 80cc Suzuki a nd dusted the troops in the funniest race of the evening Maxi Experts on 80cc machines. Still not finishing worse than third in the last two motos, he wrapped up the Masters Division against the fastest old men in the world. The racing WjlS close in every division: not one rider dominated successfully and the last motos found several riders in contention for first place. The deep sand course had a lot of riders mumbling to themselves, although by the ~cond day many had .discovered the trick to riding it and competition was noticeably keener. Washington Oldtimers retained their hold on the team title for the fourth straight year.
