Myerscough, Gibson gas it at CMC Carlsbad MX By Mark Kariya CARLSBAD, CA, MAY 27 A number of riders put on quite a show in the final Continental Moto-sports Club races here before The Big One: The U.S. Grand Prix on June 10. (There will be no CMC events in southern California that day.) Team Suzuki made their presence known in the 125cc Pro class. Brian Myencough, sixth on lap one, took his factory bike to third on lap two. Coming out of Rattlesnake Gulch on lap four, he motored by Mike Tripes (Esc) for the lead, stretching it to the end. Early leader Randy Hess (Suz) held off Rick Joluuon (Yam) for second with Scott Burnworth and Koji Masuda of Suzuki following them in. Tripes' bike threw its chain twice, dropping him way back... Hess got the jump on the rest of the pack in the second moto, and liIr.e the first, Tripes was reading the stickers on his rear fender. Tripes did a time-consuming wheelstand coming out of the Gulch, however, letting Myencough take his place. Hess took it to the limit in his effon to stay ahead of Myerscough. On lap seven, though, he bobbled after the bridge ·on the uphill, losing some momentum and the lead. Tripes lost a chain adjuster which allowed his wheel to cock and throw the chain on the last lap while dicing with Johnson for third. Places one through five in the second mota and overall read the same as the fIrst mota fmish. In the 250cc Pros, Jim Gibson (Hon) seemed to have a throttle setting designated "Faster'; because that's exactly how he went. Pat Hubbs (Mai) managed to pasa him on the downhill on lap four, but Gibson got him back the next lap and won going away.
