High school riders dominate Speedway 1. 1. 7 Series finale By Rod Eschenburg CHULA VISTA, CA, MAY 50 At Speedway 117. the CocaCola/San Diego High School Motocross Series is run along with a regular CMC night MX program. with the riders scored for their high school points separately since the riders are not necessarily the winners ...,,, even in the top three in the different classes. Well, in the 1979 Coke Series final it really didn't matter as the high schoolen grabbed off seven out of 10 class wins. (Neglecting the Minis since the riden are not of high school age.) Santana High's solid team once again blasted all competition for their third straight championship and this year they wound things up with two big wins when April Dunla.p took the Women's Open class and Danny Jones scored his third high school point night win in the 1:!5cc .Juniors. Coincidently both riders were Kawasaki-mounted. Jones scored his win with two of his patented last-lap "go-for-broke". effom as he downed a fast breaking Tom Hanley in.both go- . rounds. The top high school rider dau of the eveni~ wu once again·the..I:!5cc Intennediates and once again "Wailin' Woody" Carlson, riding for Monte Vista High scored a two for tWO victory over friendly rival Tim Theodore of Mount Miguel High. Both of these riders should be giving the Pros fits within a very few months. The rider that looks like he will be the replacement in the Intermediates for Carlson and Theodore appears to be H.J. Rinard as the Patrick Henry rider went two for two last Wednesday night in both the I25cc Junior and 500cc Junior classes. In non· high school action, Ron Laffanchi moved to the 250cc Juniors and went twO for two over improving Kent Musgrave and in the "Mighty Mites," the Minis, Frankie Brundage had his mota win streak stopped at seven straight and class win streak stopped at three as Larry Butler came up with a tie· breaker first in the second moto. Speedway 117 will be dark on June 13 and then come back with the 1979 Summer Series inaugural on June 20. Results 125 PRO: 1. Jock K_ ISuzI; 2. Scott Anderoon (Suz); 3. Jones tops. the Pros at SSM MX By Terry Whytal ORANGE, CA,JUNE2 When the dust had settled after a tough 250cc Pro battle the victor was Honda rider Clark, l~nes with a pair of hard fought WIns. Jones grabbed the early lead in the first mota with Maico rider Tim Tolar right on his heels. Andy·Guth had his Kawasaki in third with fellow Kawa rider Robert Riesinger in fourth. Riesinger 'moved around Guth on the fourth l.ap and Tolar took the lead on the next lap. Riesinger also passed Jones to move into second but Tolar encountered mechanical problems and DNF and Jones repassed Riesinger to regain the lead. Pete Snorteland was charging his Honda up from a bad start with Maico rider Randy Rodriguez following. close behind. As the race neared the end Rodriguez passed Snorteland' and Guth went out with machine failure, leav.ing Rodriguez in third place at the flag behind Riesinger and winner Jones. Jones roosted into the lead at the start of the second mota with Riesinger, Snortdand and Rodriguez rubbing on his rear fender. Lap three saw the lead change as Riesinger moved in front and Snorteland pU$hed Jones down another notch into third. At the halfway point Jones repassed SnoneIand to pressure Riesinger for the lead.
