Holt, Otibwlo, CA 714-M3-5188 _714-623-1204 morning and overcast all day, the track stayed nice and sticky. In the Experts' first moto Roll-Over Rick took the holeshot and showed Aburd Al the fast way around the track for the first lap. On the second lap, AI engaged his passing gear and waved good-bye to the rest of the pack and rode his own race. Get·Off Gary tried his darndest to catch second place RolI·Over Rick and nearly had third place in the bag; but on the last lap, Stubby Steve, who'd been running fourth from the start, passed him LO take third. In moto two, Absurd AI ran away with it again. Get-Off Gary came back stronger and rode second all the way while Roll-Over Rick dropped back and finished third but earned a second overall. Jester JerrY'gave the Amateurs a run for their money in both motos, Jerry must have eaten a Wheaties breakfast, because he rode better than ever. In moLO one, he was both first out of the gate and first across the finish line. Dippy Del came across in second. Flaky Frank and Slimy Steve played motocross tag by locking handlebars several times, yet managed to stay upright. On the last lap, though, they unlocked bars long enough for Slimy to slip by Flaky and take third. Jester Jerry got the holeshot again in moto two, and it appeared as if he had a double win. But with each remaining lap, Flaky Frank kept closing the gap between them, Then at the end of the sandy back section along the river, the Jester shut off before Flaky. Flaky was first out of the turn and sailed down onto the checkered. As in moLO one, Slimy Steve was third across the finish line, earning third overall. The competitive Intermediate class provided most of the day's excitement. -In the first maLO Bang Bang BoBo started things off in the first lap demonstrating the principle of inertia (with respect to front-end braking) by doing a LUck and roll over the bars. Varmit Vic led at the end of the first lap, with Absent Al and Drafty Dennis trailing. In the following laps, there were some exciting move-ups. Just Jim made the most impressive advance through the traffic. from a I qth place stan to a fourth place finish. Lewd Lou went from fourth LO second. Jinx Jerry, starting fifth, had moved to second, fell in the last lap, still finishing third. Varmit Vic shot out ahead again in maLO two. This time, however, Jinx Jerry stayed on his mount and whizzed by Varmit at the white flag LO win the moLO and take second overall. Flippin' Fred held off the rest of the pack and finished third. Cool weather kept fans and racers alike well-bundled as the evening went on, and with the Pros in race two, everyone got a chance to take notes on how to ride ea,rly. Tim Locey took the 250cc Pro win on his DG Yamaha ahead of JD Engineering's Dean Taylor. Taylor pressured early in the first mota, but Locey pulled away at the halfway' point, and in round two he went untouched as Taylor DNF. The exciting battle of the evening was between Open Pro winner Hal Strauss, on a Maico Magnum, and Al Baker FMF's Johnny O'Mara.
