Estrosi made no mistakes this time and took his Kawasaki into fourth place, but the effort took its toll, and after the race Christian had to be lif· ted bodily off the bike and into his caravan to recover. Behind him came Walter Villa (Yamaha) and Patrick Fernandez (Yamaha), both having lonely rides, but it was cut and thrust for seventh. eighth and nin~h places between Jean Francois Balde (Kawasaki), Randy Mamola and Belgian Richard Hubin, both on Serge Zago supplied Yamahas. Randy was just a little down on horsepower, and though he could at times out comer the Frenchman, he had to settle for eighth. but the three points were enough to keep him in second place in the championship battle behind Ballington. Barry 'Ditchburn's hopes of improving on his fourth place in the championship table came to nothing. The Kawasaki started to make very strange noises and went slower and . slower till it finally stopped. Someone had forgouen to put any oil in the gearbox. To the delight of the 15,000 fans, local hero Angel Nieto (Minarelli) won his fifth 125cc World Championship race of the season, but again Frenchman Thierry Espie (Motobocane) made him work for his success. At the end of a race-long battle Nieto was only a second ahead, but there was always the feeling that the wily Spaniard always had things under control. Eugenio Lazzarini (Kreidler) took a few laps before taking command of the 50cc race. but once out fTont the only question was who would be second. In the end it was Frenchman Patrick Plisson (ABF) who took runnerup spot, but third place for lanky Swiss rider Rolf Blatter (Kreidler) was enough to move him into the joint lead in ~~ championship table with Laz· E • ~ E zanni.
