For the most pan, the 250cc Expen
class was :i follow the leader event in
both matos. But in the second round,
Maico rider Dean Wiggins put _on a
strong ride that is well worth
mentioning. Wiggins had finished'
second in the first moto behind Jerome
Heiberger (Mai) but in heat two he
charged to the lead right off the start
and by the end of the moto he had
built up a 46-second lead, one of the
longest ever recorded at the Ridge
Runners' track.
Jeff Watts also looked sharp in the
second 250cc Expert moto, coming
from last place to finish second, which
put him in the runner-up position in
the overall standings.
Steve Kusanovich (Yam) put on a
good ride in the first moto of the Open
AmateJJr event, Kusanovich was out of
the top five at the end of lap one but
began to pick his way t1l!'ough traffic,
gaining one position per lap until he
was closing on the leader; Mike Lane
(Yam), Kusanovich tried. for two laps
to find an opening but Lane rode well,
blocking in the comers and taking the
fast line down the bumpy straights.
Finally, with only two laps to go, Lane
picked the wrong line going under the
oak tree and Kusanovich capitalized
on the error by slipping by into the
lead and "hanging on until the
checkered flag.
/Moto two of the same class saw
Kuaanovich ending up with, a fifth
place finish while David Nance (Suz),
who had finished eighth in moto one,
took the honors. Lane, who had put
on such a good dice with Kusanovich
in the first round failed to finish the
" second event.
