TuIIs' XR185 Edges SfocIc XR500 in CaftJmia Enduro Classic
What we're looking at here is the dawn of a
whole new era in dirt bikes. The XR era.
Just ask Jay Tullis. Or. Gary Woodling.
Or any of the 249 guys who chased them
in the 33rd annual Greenhom Enduro
May 19-20.
It was two days and 400 miles of tests and
torture for men and machines. Treacherous
off-earnber switchbacks in the mountains.
Jumbles of killer rocks shimmering in the
Lucerne valley heat. Plus one of the alltime whiteknuckle downhills in AMA District
37 memory.
When the dust settled, Tullis and his
tricked-out XR185 collected the overall
trophy. But only by the margin of a
tie-breaker against Woodling's virtually
showroom stock ~R500. And Woodling
finished the second day on a flat rear tire.
Woodling is enduro editor for DIRT BIKE
magazine, and his XR500 was a magazine
test bike. We can't imagine a more fitting
test of an enduro-ready machine than a
super tough enduro like the Greenhorn.
Because when iNe say the XRs are
enduro.:ready, we mean enduro-ready.
XR185, XR250 and XR500. Super fourstroke technology wrapped up in serious
dirt bikes that work. Each with an available
Hpnda High Performance Options kit, like
the one used in the Tullis special.
See the XRs at your Honda dealer now.
And while you're there, ask him about the
XR Series Awards program. It could
make your fjrst XR competition win
worth $100.
