Street is Neat Cure for klutziness I confess. I'm a klutz. A klutz is a biker who stops his bike, steps off and realizes with a sinking heart as he watches his cycle - ~ ~ 1 ~ .i , " slowly list 90 degrees from vertical that he forgot to put the stand down. A klutz is also a biker who oils his chain, then takes a spin around the block ("Don't need no helmet , just goin' around the block.") and rises painfully from the aforementioned 90 degrees from vertical to acknowledge that he also lubed his tire. Klutziness can take many forms . There is the Mechanical Klutz who , wields the hammer on a stubborn part before discovering the hidden snap ring in the bowels of the rubble. There is the Economy Klutz who pushes his bike five m iles back to the gas station where he should have filled up and then forgets to turn the tank off reserve and has to push it to the next station also. But now there is hope for klutzes . Thanks to the Chuck Center for the Cure of Klutziness, I am now able to ride carefree, without suddenly discovering that I forgot to unlock the security chain. No longer must I drink out of cans that somebody has used for an ashtray. For once I am able to replace the rear wheel with all the spacers the first time. The treatment is virtually painless. It consists of repeating over and over "I'm a dumbiker, I'm a dumbiker." Then, every time you feel impelled to take action, tell 'you rself "T ha t's what you might expect a dumbiker to do. " Whether it is buying a basket case in the dark, or changing a tire with screwdrivers, or just thinking the car , ahead won't turn in fron t of me because the driver is looking right in my eye , I remind myself of my dum biker heritage and do the opposite. .
