Parry Klassen's return to the rae ing scene, and eventually to the
National foray, was brightened
by a pair of 250cc Expert wins
while Dean Wiggins continued to
dominate the Open Expert ranks in a
quest for the top Blue Plate of 0-36.
Although it was the kickoff for the
summer racing season at Sears Point ,
the track was a mess . A mid-week rain
storm left the track mired for its
scheduled work force until the day
before the race. Hasty preparations
were undertaken to make the track
useable on race morning.
The 125cc Novices had a good go on
the cobbly start line. Dan Key beat out
Bill Harrison and Keith Holmgren for
Division One honors while Ruben
Villarreal continues to dominate by
turning whatever run he gets into a win , •
Will"y Miller reversed the score on
Mitch Lenz 's Jawa for the 125cc

while Pete Langley pulled a come
from behind act to take second overall
with a 2·4 score over Ron Com bs.
Mike Scott stuck his Dublin Kawasaki
into second in the second mota but
Langley's Cycle West Suzuki held onto
fourth behind Fred Tunnicliff for the
overall.
Jim Inglebright led out the 250cc
Experts first mota with Klassan and
Wiggins in close tow , Before the end of
the first lap he found himself in third
while Wiggins made a definite move
for first and held it briefly , stopping
for consultation at the end of the
second lap , which gave Craig Stair a
two ·corn er lead on the Qua lity Cycle
Maico . Wiggins had t hought t hat the
gear shift/peg were binding up b ut it
was internal and he re -jo ined the
battle with a hard shifr ing rnachine .
Klassan found the rest of the 10
lapper to his liking, leading with ease
despite a hard charge from Wiggins
who was back up to second. Jerome
Heiberger took third .over Inglebright
and Stair just ahead of Ted Cabral.
In the second moto it was Cabral
and the Cycle West Suzuki showing
one of th e things they teach at Suzuki
MX School - the holeshot over
Inglebright . Chris Grewer on the East
Bay H onda , Klassan and Wiggins. As

tha t he should have been a Junior
rated rider months ago by beating a ·
big field of 250cc cats with a pair of
aces · while Irv Achziger showed his
recent change is not for naught on the
San Francisco Honda . Cunningham
and the Cal Cycle Supply Special
shouldn't be long in this class and they
expect to see this man on the Blue
Plate list quickly . .
Bob Holmes had no trouble owning
both Open Novice motos while second
was a close one with Bob Carlson
edging out Steve Hartshorn in the
point battle with a 4-2 over a 3-3
count. John Scruggs had a similar win
pattern in the Junior rounds. Gary
Leach held a pair of twos over Steve
Powell's pair of fours .
Jim Saitone hasn't had much time to
work on his own motor what with
setting up a nd helping out a half
dozen kids at the races , but it doesn't
seem to hurt his efforts, Saitone won
both ends of th e OT Expert with his
number one plate lea d ing the way
