Day took hi mself out early and Yamamoto laid it down la ter tryi ng to catch McDaniel. Mc Daniel got the win with Ward seco nd . The first Expert heat ha d Mic key Fay (American Honda / Roger Stanley X R50 0) a nd Hocking having to make up much dist ance to cat ch up with the leaders Donald Dodge. Fra nk Word and Gary Davis. Fay fou g ht his way by La rs Trulson and Hoc king for fourth . Dod ge held up und er the pressu re to take the win . Scott Pearson proceeded to take the second hea t followed by Donald Br own . Bra d H u rst . John Wincewicz , Son ny Bu rres and R a ndy Scott. Larry Lega rra got the ho leshot in the th ird heat . whi le Ke n Celorie got by Peter Simonsen on the second lap and set up Legarra for a last la p pass . Celorie took the win followed by Legarra , Simonsen. Ted Boody and Donald Smith. Five national numbered riders were going for the three transfer spots in the semi. First -yea r Expert Jo hn Wincewicz too k the lead with Fay. Hocking and Randy Scott dicing for th e lead. Fa y had a ho ld on second until th e last turn when Scott dialed it on to get seco nd with Hocking taking the last transfer slot , N ovice Bill Howard and Juni or T erry Weigand took the lead and won th eir trophy dashes . Howa rd also won th e Novice main. The Expert cla ss was a differ ent story . Brad Hurst . Gary Davis and R ick Hocking rode three abreast around th e turns and through t h e chicane until Hurst took the decision over Davis a nd Hocking. The Junior main was a race between McC ullough (Rob Muzzy/ Cycle Sport Yam ) a nd Jeff Haney (American Honda /Jerry Griffith Hon) un til the fift h la p . H a ney stretched his lead to 50 yards at the flag . Da vison too k over third from Thompson (Wilby Optical Lab Yam) . Weigand finis hed fif th a nd Jeff Celorie (R ay's Trucking Yam ) was sixth. Scott Pe....son (H ·D W est H- D) also too k five laps to d ispa tch Don a ld Brown and ta ke th e lea d in the Ex pert main . Pearson built his lead and was never head ed . Ken Celori e ha d moved from fourth to second at the halfway point, ta king R ick - H ocking (Norris Cams/ Am erican Honda) and Frank Word Oerry Mather Ra cing Yam) with him . Meanwhile. Randy Sco tt (George Hersch ba ck /S hoe i Helmets/ Olympic Beer Tri) ha d m ad e incredible time t hrough t h e pack and was now seven th . On the 12th la p Hocking was second followed by Cel orie , Scott, Word. H u rst (K RW/ Lectron/T orco Oil Tri) and Donald Dodge. The evening's program kicks off each week with a ll three Pro classes off the line first. This evening it was th e 125s . followed b y a 250cc /Open combination race . Da na Waxham ran away with the small . five rider 125cc Pro class. In the first six-la p moto, he jumped out in from im mediately a nd by the end of the first la p h ad a four second lead over Steve Richa rds (Suz). Waxham, who rides a Suz u ki for Gen e 's Au tomotive. continued to open u p. R ichards fell prey to Brian Coul son (Suz) at the end of la p two .
