._._._._._._._._._._~._._._._._._._._.- ~OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOQo uWrecker" Breker steam rolls at SSMMX By T erry Whytal ORANGE. CA , APR. 21 Husky rider Goat Breker took home the day's top money after a come from behind ride followed by a runaway victory gave him the 250cc Pro win. Bre ker had to defeat some top SoCal talent including Suzuki's Jeff Jennings and Jim Tarantino and Can-Am 's Rich Eierstedt. It was Tarantino out front as the pack completed lap one of the first moto with the Yamaha of Tim Lu n de . close behind. Jennings was third and Breker was way back in about ninth . While J en nings was putting the move on Lunde and Tarantino to take over the lead on lap six, Breker was fighting up through traffic. Breker passed rider after rider to move up with the leaden and put pressure on Lunde. It took several laps but Breker finally got around Lunde and then passed Tarantino with one lap to go to finish second behind Jennings. When the gate dropped on the second moto Breker jumped into the lead and began to motor away. Behind him quite a race for second was shaping up betwe en Jennings , Tarantino and Rich Eierstedt. The three riders shuffled positions several times with Eierstedt finally coming out the winner . In the closing laps Eierstedt attempted to reel in Breker but the Norstar Husky rider was well in control of the race and took the checkers first followed by Eierstedt. Jennings and Tarantino. Breker was the overall winner ahead of Jennings and Tarantino finished third. Suzuki factory rider Danny L a Pon e came out to battle in the O pe n .Pro class and brought along a very trick looking piece of motocross machinery . LaPone used the day to tune up for the fast approaching 500 N a tion a ls and as might be expected he easily dominated both motos . While LaPorte was out front cruising, Parry Klassen was riding the wheels off his Maico trying to stay ahead of Husky-mounted Ken Morgan and Maico rider Bill Hagen. Klassen finally managed to break away from the other two and rode to the checkers with second place firmly in control. Hagen managed to get around Morgan to take third. Once again LaPone established an early lead in the second moto and really pu lled out all the stops to lap the entire field with the exception of Klassen who kept pace with the factory ace for much of the race. Hagan and Ammex rider Gary Jones put on a good show battling for third, with Jones coming out ahead although Hagen ended th e day with th ird overall behind Klassen and La Porte , Suzuki rid er Scott Burnworth won th e 125cc Pro class over a field of riders d ecimated b y mechani cal failures . Honda rider Bob Kline finished the day in the runner-up Spot and Jerry Shore kept his Yamaha together to p lace third . Results OPEN PRO: 1. Danny laPorte (Su% 2. Parry Klaasen l; IMail; 3. CA , APR. 22 DeAnza regulars saw a good turnout of Over-T he-H ill-Gang motocrossers challenge each other on a well prepared, hilly track , a downhill of which looked like "Colossus. " The steepness claimed riders throughout the day, including Fragrant Frank, who tried coming down it doing a handstand on his handlebars. In mota one of the Expert class , Piner Pat was first down the big hill , until Rat-Hole Rocky sneaked by h im to lead the rest of the wa y to the checkered. Get -Off Ga ry persistently chased Pitter Pat and finished third . After warming up in moto one, GetOff Gary rocketed to the lead at the stan of mota two and stayed there , earning second place for the day. It appeared that Pitter Pat had another second place going before Rat-Hole Rocky - coming from a fifth place start - overtook him in the fifth lap . Pit ter Pat tried hard to regain his pos ition, but fin ished a respectable th ird . In the Amateur class , Dinky Dennis , Amos Andy. and Slimy Steve finished in that order in both motos. Dippy Del rode hard to hold second in mota one for three laps. but couldn't hold off a determined Amos Andy. Then in the last lap, Slimy Steve. running behind Dippy Del most of the race, passed him for third . From the very beginning of moto two, Dinky Dennis , Amos Andy, and Slimy Steve held 1-2·3 , throughout the race. The Intermediates were th e largest class of the day . Jinx Jerry kept his Honda out front every la p of mota on e with Varmit Vic hot on his tail all the way . Bang Bang BoBo , from the second lap on, ran a strong consistent th ird. Hold-it Harry led the first lap in mota two ; however , in the next lap he succumbed to quick- riding Jinx Jerry who re pe a te d h is first mota p erformance . Hold -it Harry h eld second until lap five. then exchanged posit ions with sneaky Bang Bang BoBo . From seem ing ly out of nowhere, though, Kwik Keith , from th e back of the pack, overtook Bang Bang at the whi te flag a nd fini shed second. Nee-h i Norm got the holeshot in th e Novice's first mota wit h Chisler Chuck right behind him . On th e th ird la p , however , Bye -B ye Bob slip ped b y Chisler on th e ins id e of th e uphill sweepe~ and sped on to pass Nee -h i a!' the sixth lap to win the first rnoto. But it was Nee -h i No rm who won th e second rno to running away with it. Mortar Mike took second. thwarting off Bye-Bye who , try ing hard , couldn't get by him . • Results EX: , .
