The fina l rnoto was another Roger Brown holeshot over Kirk Spencer and the moro mi ght have been a repeat of th e first ; exce p t that Brown a nd Spencer c rashed into ea ch ot he r sending both to th e middle of the pack. The new leaders were Monte Anderson , Milson , and Hollingsh ead. In no time a t a ll Brown and Sp encer . were back in to th e th ick of it. W ith four laps to go Roger nosed his Suzuki ahead of Holl ingshead , started to challenge new leader Mitch Milson , and then retired from the action with bi ke problems . Wit h tw o laps remain in g it beca me a fou r rider train to th e fi nis h invol ving Milson, Hollingshead , Spencer , and Reeves. Beh in d them Chris Dublin (Yam) and Rick French tangled for fifth in the moto that eventually resulted in Dublin and French scoring fourth and fifth overall. Mitch Milson ra ised his hand in victory as he crossed t he fin ish line in first place, beating Darrell Hollingshead by a bikelength. But that ma rgin wasn't good enough to beat Da rrell overall . R ich ard Reeves crossed the lin e behind Kirk Spen cer but sti ll managed th ird overall . Wyman Priddy from Fort Worth powered a Honda lO a double rnoto victory in t he Over -Sf Expert divi sion . This bein g the fir st yea r for this cla ss. it was appro priat e that W yman , one of Texas' all tim e greats , gr aced the st a rti ng gat e with h is prese n ce . However . th e co mpetition wishes he would just stay hom e . As Brown pu t a two second separat ion o n T u rn bo. J ohnson d isposed of Graham and Priddy. On the fin al lap Glen caught Dicky in th e tigh t back section. He attempted to pass underneath wh en Turnbo left o pe n a gap big enoug h for the wa ter truck , but as Johnson rea ch ed the corner he was mysteriously cut off by Turnbo's front wheel and forced into a tree . Both reac hed t he finish line ta king second and thi rd in the moto and overall with Wyman Priddy fourth and Graham fifth . Darrell Hollingshead , o ne of the state's mos t expe rie nced Open Expert performers , was rig ht on target at his home track beat ing a powerful contingent on his RM Suzuki . In the first moto Darrell trailed Roger Brown (Suz ) and Kirk Spencer (Ya m) at the start as behind chased Richa rd Reeves (Suz), Ricky Kidd (Ya m) , and Rick French (Ya m ). Spencer and Brown's furious ba ttle for the lead opened up a separation over t he pack u nti l Spencer p u lled o ut wit h motor p roblems, Monte Anderson was the man on th e mov e by lap three as he passed Dou g Archer. Kidd , and Reeves .
