Tony will survive, although for a few minutes thi s past Friday night it looked as if he mi ght b e o u t of competition for th e rest of th e year. Som ehow , as he was coming out of turn three , aga in ge tting kn ock ed a r,?u nd betw een rid ers. his left foot got stuck in th e right side between th e rear tire and the frame of his bike and he we nt down hard . The ra ce wa s stop ped at once as severa l mechanics. along with the paramedics started to take the bike a part to remove his leg . His steel shoe was jammed in between th e sprocket and frame and his boot was tom to shreds. -As it turned out. the steel shoe took most of the st rain off his foot and left j ust enough room that no real damage was done to the young star. He was helped back to th e pits and was seen walk ing around later that night. In second and th ird divisions . wher e you expect to see most of th e crashes because of lack of experience. the wars go on . Joe Donaldson . on e of the better division two riders. who has just about earned h is way into first div ision, found himself on his way to the hospital after being harpooned by a slower rider who just let it all hang ou t in the last lap . He did get by th e whole pack of riders that he was trailing. but the re was no way he could hav e ever made the 'tu rn at that speed . so he just used Donaldson to stop his forward motion. Dumb and costl y. but perhaps the AMA has a rule to cover . no ta lent . Getting down off m y soapbox and rounding out .th e night, was the fine win by Dave Mill er.
