Defending 500cc World Road Racing champion Kenny Roberts returned to the Series after missing the first round due to injuries, and won . Roberts' Yamaha took the Apr. 29 Austrian 500cc GP race by six seconds over Virginio Ferrari, with fellow Suzuki riders Wil Hartog and Tom He rron th ird and fourth . In fifth was Suzuki test rider Hyraduki Kawasaki . Barry Sheene finished 12th, out of the points. Ferrari now leads the series with 24 points, followed by Hartog (18) . There may be some confusion regarding two separate BLM deadlines that appeared in the last issue. The May 10 deadline is for specific protests of proposed Wilderness Study Areas in the California Desert Conservation Area. Such protests must say why a specific area is unsuitable for Wilderness Study Area classification (a road runs through it or something).
