Snell 75 tests 'and bear the approval stickers will be allowed , and they must be fitt ed with a face shie ld in good cond ition . An im po rt a nt ben efit t hat most clubs hav e for th e neophyte road ra cer is their new rider p rograms . T he AFM will have several new rid er pract ice days on th e Saturday before race day during th e course of th e year . They are very informative and well thought out. The one I attended at Sears Point had several class champions giving talks on corn er ing th eori es and other vital inform a tion . Then the students were taken around th e track, first at slow speed, but gradually increasing speed to a competitive level. All the while . the instructors were obse rving the students and making mental not es so they could give individual constructive criticism later. The new rider program is the best thing that any club can do for -its beginners because it provides them with th e experience of years ' worth of racing by class champions. It all ows th e beginner to learn at a safer and much faster rate than he would otherwise. And that makes it safer for everyone on the track. The purpose of the club is to pr ovide a safe enviro nment for th e com peti tive rider but an other ben efit is the socia l outlet of being br ought toge the r wit h many peo ple who sha re a com mo n love for road racing.
