Really one sport
When Am erica's top rider in the International Six Days Trial has to fight to
the last check of the final national
championship enduro of the year to
retain his national enduro title
because he was busy in Europe one
week in September ... when a member
,of the Penton clan ends up third with
the same excuse . .. when a "stay-at home" factory rider drives his van
60.000 miles to enduros in 12 months
in his quest for the championship. only
to be fouled up and dropped to No.2
by some strange rules , ., when the
cloc k becomes the master, and not just
one or two checks, but a whole
national enduro is thrown out because
of protests ... when all this happens in
one year you don't even need to wipe
the dust or mu d from your goggles to
see the sport of enduro - fun as it is
- has some tro ub les,
Top enduro riders a re becoming
inc reasingly frustrated, and the AMA
is not ha pp y either, with what is
happening as the sport becomes mo re
popular. Cham pion Dick Bu rleson has
ma de some suggestions, which have
been echoed \n,:J Qt.
