Chris Heiselman (Han) took third with Da vid La Pierre (Ka w) fourth . Bobby Danielson (Ha n) really cam e to life in th e second moto a nd won it easily. John Mattocks took second for a well earned first overall. Marty Ness (Kaw) led the first mota of the I2 5B class from sta rt to finish , despite a strong challenge from Tom H ilker (Yam). Pat Jaquish (Yam) ran in sec ond until he c r a sh ed and advanced Hilker into second. Mik e Tonak (Su z) fin ished fou rth . The second m ota was led by Jaquish from th e sta rt to the wire . Davis snatches hairy Los Gatos cross country TT Pro duct io ns Photos by Pat Van Nuys HOLLISTER , CA , MAR . 11 With the upsurge of h are scrambles even ts in the north , the " N o H air , " th e " W ild Hare," erc. , it was in evitable . that th e ro uges of D·56 , th e Los Gatos M.C . would present th e first annual Pubic Hair Scrambles at H ollister ORV Park's Up pe r R anch . Scot t Davi s, on the big red Sel by Moto rs Ma ico , shaved th e com pe ti tio n with a razor sha rp b litz that look ed more like mot ocross than cro ss·country. The Experts wer e serio usly goi ng for it from the sta rt . Ga ry Vanderpool and Kevin Ingall s tan gled a nd went off th e bank on one of the ridge cli mbs; both of them rem ounted a nd got b ack into th e charge. By lap two , Charlie Ma rshall's Husky had lost both of its levers due to h is aggr essive r iding sty le o n a somewhat narrow track. Scott Da vis and Scott Austin , both rid ing Maicos, hooked up in what turned ou t to be a class ic dual , flyin g a long sid e by side and trading pos itions on th e twist y. tough track. Their elbow to elbow dice carried th em to a healthy lead in front of th e scra tc hi ng pack. Phil Dou glass was another front runn ing man on a Ma ico but a m issed pit stop left him high and d ry . Scott Aus tin 's q uest for victo ry fell short whe n he had no less than th ree close encounters of the wrong kind with out of shape ba ckrnarkers . Gary Vanderpo o l too k adv anta g e b y slip ping into second and Scott Davis plucked th e chec kers awa y from his rivals. Au sti n held on to third a head of co nsistent Steve Ferreri (Yam) with Kevin Inga lls (H us) coming from last place to fifth by th e end of the ch ase. The co urse was ro ugh and tricky and th e riders that fin ished a ppea red to be tired-out. O ne rider qu it on th e wh ite flag lap , not kn owing that he was still in contention within h is cla ss.
