Dean Wiggins was firm ly in control of the 250cc Expert show through th e firs t ha lf but fou nd his Petaluma Cycle Maico not shi fting 'well after t he primary chain let loose some metal. Troy Folk took the first mota win while Tay Cragg came back to win the second moto over Dave Woodall and Wiggins. Folk copped the overall with a 1-4. Mark Hannum parlayed a pair of .wins for the first Open Novice division win while Monty Sears and Tim Ma in tied up the next two spots. Walter Best was just that in th e second di vision over Raon Matteri do ing it all for mom with a 2-3 for second over Tom Cargile on his Husky. Joe Elkins was the Open Junior picture of perfection , and the onl y real consistent guy in that class , with a pa ir of wins . Scott Rice rode into second with a 4-6 score and Chuck Smart took a 10-2 tie for third with Bill Gr igg in a t 3-9. Another case of Diener ditch taking its toll. Bob Myers appeared to have the Open Expert all wrapped up after an easy first moto win. He was leading handily in the second when he got all wrapped up in his chai n and t he fencing and finished out of the money a lap in arrears. That was all Eric McKenna needed to bring t he Jan . Valley Racing Association competition continued this past weekend with quarter mile action on the blue grove at Newman Saturday and rough scrambles on a muddy, but raceable, course a t Oakda le Sunday. Carmel 's Dann y Moore and Gustine's "Tiny" Pettit continu ed to dominate the lightweight Sportsman 'classes as both swept the l25cc Junior and Novice mains both day s. Moore, aboard Cal 'Cycle Yamahas, aced out Modesto's Tony Holdsclaw in a close dice Saturday night and th en outran David Pettit on the rough cou rse Sunday. Tiny eased past fellow form er Min i Expert Jerry Lanning on the quarter-mile a nd th en easily won th e rough main Sunday.
