In the pack , Maico W est rider Pa rry Klasson was workin g his wa y u p to take over the third pla ce spot. With Loce y, Sh oe m aker and KIasson way ou t in' front . some of th e best ra cing was going on back in th e fourth pla ce spot between Yamaha -mounted Ga ry N ea l and Honda -m ounted Dean Taylor. Every lap these two woul d co me by with just inc hes in betw een the two bikes. Bu t Nea l was able to hold onto the fourth place Spot , a nd T aylor had to sett le for fifth . The next race was more of the same, with Locey holding down the lead , Shoemaker in second and Klasson in third . The overall for the day went to Lo cey with Shoemakeer taking second and third going to Klasson . Locey again showed his riding ability as he came back to win the ove rall in the l25cc Pro class against some strong competition 'fro m Suzuki rider Bobby Jones and Yamaha rider Willie Simons. Simons pulled a second in the fir st moto with Jones taking third . In the second moto again Locey was clearly in command this time with Suzuki rider Chip Johnson in second and Simons in third . T he overa ll for th e day went to Locey with Simons taking second and Johnson taking third . The Open Pro race proved to be one of the most exci ting of the day with 22 riders all goi ng for their sha re of the mon ey. In the first round Joe Root piloted his Yamaha into the .lead with Mai co rid ers Hal Strauss, Da ve Haugh and Parry Kla sson in close pursuit. As th e pack started to spread ou t. Stra uss took over th e lead , with "'Klasson push ing hard rig ht on his rear wheel. Kla sson finall y made his move and .settled into first with Strauss in second , Ma ico rider Bill Keese taking over third , with Haugh in fourth. With one lap left in the ra ce Kla sson had to drop ou t. when he lost all the spokes in his rear wheel. St rauss fini shed first with second going to Keese and third to Haugh . . Round two again saw Root with the holeshot and the lead but it d idn't take Strauss long to take the' lead with Haugh in seco nd and a strong ridin g Mike Wi ckersham in third . Wickersham pushed h is Ma ico hard a n d took seco nd , putting Haugh in third a n d Mai co rider Andy Jannings in fou rth .
