No "detail-overlooked - - - - - - - - • - • The stock Marzocchi suspe nsio n was left un ch anged up front except for t he installa tion of Lea k Proof fork sea ls and th e ad d itio n of fork boots , but in the rear Fox Dual -rate Air Shox ( 125/1 60 lbs. . nitrog en ) replaced the origi na l suspenders, mainly to improve th e ride when th e bik e is used in crosscountry ra ces. A Barum wit h the wra p -a ro u n d trea d was mounted up front , but th e stock Met zeler stayed on th e rear. In a ddition to two rim locks on each wheel , Sun rim pins a re used to keep . t he t i res fro m sli p pi ng a t low p ressures. T he pi ns a re not used in a bout a 45 ° arc opposite the valve ste m . T his ma kes ti re changes easier. T he valve-core ho e in eac h rim was elo ng a ted in case of tu be sp in , an d a red stripe was pa inted the re so it's easily spotted . Spokes were tied with stainl ess sa fety wire . The st oc k KTM fend ers were repl aced with a Presto n Pett y Super Mudder up front and a Falk plasti c fender and sp lash -gu a rd in the rear. Dirt Factory's own al umi num alloy side pa nels, cu t down slightl y to clear the shocks, wer e rubber-mounted in place of the original p lastic panels. A Fun 'N Fas t skid plate protects the engine cases. Gearing 14/52 originally, was made a bit lower with a 13·tooh cou n tersha ft spro cket. Diamond XDL 530 ch a in was put on instead of th e origi na l. Since the 1977 KTM comes eq ui p ped with a chain tension er and nvlon rub blocks o n th e swin g a r rn, no modifications wer e need ed there . The stock exha ust p ipe was retained , wit h th e addition of a silenci ng kit tha t incl udes a Super-Trapp silencer a nd sp a rk-arrest or a nd rubbers for the cylind er fins . The throttle cable and kill -button wire a re even covered with gas line tubing for extra . waterproofing and to prevent chafing.
