FLUNG CHAIN
THE LATEST IN MOTORCYCLE POOP
TH E SUPER L U BES EDmON
Metropolis , Ca. _.Superrnan laPorte
has joined forces with PJI Super Lubes
to protect motocross racers everywhere!
Seemingly mild mannered,PJl Chain Lube
applies water thin to penetrate down deep
to where it really counts. . .between your
chain 's pins and rollers. Then once inside,
Pll 's secret blending of molybdenum disulfide and synthetic sperm oil changes to
a tough , shock absorbing protective film
to fight against heat build -up, chain wear,
and your dreaded foe -vFlung Chain.
Superman laPorte isn't the only factory MXer that's really flying with PJI.
And like laPorte's Suzuki works machine ,
with its ultra-long suspension travel, the
stress on their chains is enormous, and a
cushion of high film-strength lube is a must .
Novice Greg Tysor put the zap on
the JunlorfNovlce program.
Joey Perdue at the line . Jones was on a
Bill Kennedy owned Yamaha for the
first time. Friday night he rode an Ed
Atkins Yamaha without much luck .
He said he was "waiting for an offer."
Terry Poovey was back in the saddle
on his Bultaco after his Harley
developed shifting problems. He rode
it to a win in the first semi with Mike
Kidd barely edging out Bubba Shobert
for second. Ted Boody beat Noot Irvin
in style in the second semi by doing a
wheelstand across the finish line .
Friday night's winner, Scott Pearson, started badly and finished fourth ,
missing the transfer by one spot. Gene
Church took the third semi. Tim Mertens won the crash-strewn fourth semi .
The red-white-and-blue colors were
flying in the final as Army sponsored Mike Kidd took command of the lead
right from the green light. Church,
Poovey, and Irvin pressured. while
Billy Labrie tired to move up via the
high line.
.
As Kidd built up a lead. Poovey displaced Church, who was bumped back
another notch when Irvin took over
third. and the top three were set ,
After the race Kidd did his best to
plug for his sponsors by . handing out
autographed pictures while describing
the race. "W hen I got down to the first
tum I thought I could walk faster than
that."
Mike's father, Don Kidd, put together the engine that Mike won with
and chalked up the previous night to a
learning expenence.
