The "Mouth of th e North." announcer Pete Scalzo, soon had the fans in a frenzy and a partisan crowd shrieked when Norm Robinso n was introduced. Faria needed only scratch heat number one to demonstrate why he holds the number one plate. Ford. Yarrow. and Robinson also advanced to the semis with heat wins . Ford. asked about his winter season. said. " I haven't raced since October. I just don't like the ice. It's totally different and messes you up for speedway racing. " . In the han d ica p hea ts Robinson . Ford. Faria a nd W orkman clea ned the , op position a nd advanced . In the scratch division semis. Faria took Yarrow off the undefeated list with Norm Robinson doing the same for Ford. Dennis Robinson got his "Mother Goose" Jawa ,hooking for a consolation win ahead of Mike Robin son. The final act of the dram a unfolded in the handic ap semis as Faria and Rob inson continued winning and ad vanced to be pitted against each other in the final events. In the han dic ap ·consi. James Pie rce got by Buckwa lte r and Wo rkman to en d up his night on a high key. Su pport division honors went to Californian Steve Elstins as he com pleted a clean sweep of all three even ts; Gomans. Mosher. and La Rochelle. fought for the leftovers. The long-awaited showdown came in the handicap final ith .Norman Robinson and Mike Faria starting together back on the 50 yard line. The pair stormed through the early leaders. but Faria went down in turn one and hit the haybales. He said later. "I was on the outside and was going too m uch faster than the guy in front of me . It was better to lay it down than to ta ke him out too ." Robinson then challenged leader Duane Yarrow with the two waging a super duel for the handicap purse. Yarrow . who wears pink and laven der leathers for his sponsor. " Elega nt Hairfare" Beauty Salon . said later. " I . got too much traction coming in . tried to gas it . but it was too late! " Faria. Robinson , Yarrow and Ford thundered under the start barrier in the scratch final. Faria's Jawa slid through turn one first and he never looked back. Robinson couldn't make up the three-length lead and had to settle for second best . with Yarrow edging Ford for .third . Robinson said . "Faria gave me some chances. but I couldn't capitalize on them . I plan to change the ca rb and get this thing faster for tomorrow night! " Tomorrow night . unfortunately for speedway fans . will have to be next year. as rains wiped out the final two • nights ofracing. Results Support Division Final: 1. Steve Elstins Wsw); 2.
