We may have gone down to defeat, but our
star still shines bright. Round three on the .
quarter-mile track broke the winning streak of
the U.S. team but what a night of racing!
Shawn Moran , 17 , on a bike
that is older than he is, turned
out to be the hero of the night.
As it worked out points-wise, Bob

Schwartz and Shawn both ended up
with 15. Peter Collins was high for the
visitors with 14 and Larry Ross added
12 points to a winning score. of 63 for
the World team against 43 for the U .S.
team .
This was the closest score so far and
some of the credit must go to J,C.
Agajanian, because if not for the
chance to ride the big track all last
season , the U ,S, team would really
have been hung out to dry.
'[he U.S . team may have ' scored ' a '
few more points if not for some bike
trouble and one of the team's superĀ·
stars out of action . Bruce Penhall rode
most of last season in Europe and
would have made a big difference int
the overall score, but because of a
separated shoulder suffered in Mexico
when he was run over by a truck ,
Bruce could only sit on .the sideline
and root for the home team, but. "I
will be riding next Thursday night on
the half mile" says Bruce.
Due to the passing of his mother,
Anders Michanek will not be hand for
the final event; he wi1l return to
Sw~den to be with the rest of his
family, World team leader Barry
