CA , FEB. 18 Yamaha R&D rider Bryon Antonacci emerged as the outstanding Mini rider at Barona O aks Raceway with wins in the special 105cc Minicycle class and the Modified 80cc Expert Mini class plus a second in the Stock 80cc Expert Mini class. Kenny Dunlap celebrated his first year anniversary in motocross racing by upsetting Antonacci in a tie breaker second moto win for the stock 80cc Expert honors in his first start as an Expert . Dunlap further justified his selection as an Escondido Kawasaki Team rider by taking a close second in the 105cc Minis and a third in the Modified 80cc Mini class . Vey's Suzuki rider Donny Jones was right there with the leaders in all three classes for two thirds and a second plus a win in the Astrodome GNC Qualifier. In Intermediate Mini action it was Kawasaki -mounted Scott Hewatt who took both the Stock and Modified classes for the 12· 10 lfi -year-old s. Only in the Stock class was Hewatt in an y trouble. when he had to come back for a banzai third at the ch eck ers after a slidedown in the first moto and then got some help in the second moro from Chris Lance who edged a very improved David Crowson for second 10 give the tie -breaker to Hewatt , In other Intermediate action, Suzuki riders Frankie Brundage and Charlie Sampson scored sweeps of the g·11 Intermediate Modified and Stock Minis respectively . SCOtt Zastrow had the biggest day of his Barona Oaks career with firsts in the g-II Junior Cycle Stocks and the Modified g·11 Novice Minis. Motorcycle action was as good -as ever with Scott Hamilton and John Can er seeping wins in the 125cc classes , with Mike Parmelee scoring a Stock win off a fourth and a first and Mike Monsegur taking the Modified class with a third and a first. So wild was the Stock division that Monsegur got a third overall with a first and a 10th!" After a tremendous turnout last year for the first GNC qualifier race ai Baron a, this year was, to pu t it deli ! ca te ly - a flop . O nly the sensa tional . riding demonstrations of Ba ron a O aks graduate Clint Hardick saved it fro m < bei ng a real yawner, since with many of the local riders al ready qualified the week p rior , very few riders went in any of the classes. It was a shame too, as the race course was in incrediblyl bea utifu l shape - staying loose a nd moist all day and the fastest laps of the d ay being turned by Hardick with his 250cc Honda and his 500cc Maico. Ba rona Oaks will continue its yearlong first and third Sunday schedule with its next program on March 4. Racing is open to all riders through 16 years of age in the minicycle classes and through 18 years of age in the 100cc and 125cc motorcycles. Results SPECIAL 105cc MINI: 1.
