Past the bomb Amateur Eric MacCracken of the Viewfinders too k the lead with Ogilvie not far behind. Mike Sixberry and Cory Timms were the next down the trail with Trailbiker . Cliff Thomas holding his own with the heavyweights . Kern Park. Torco's claim to fame in the desert, was the first 250cc through check one with Bob Sanders in the lead Senior spot. This race brought out a good contingent of sidehacks with five of them making it to the first check.. Eric, still in the lead , was berzerk ing it, failed to see a tum, and ke pt on goi ng straight. That was t he last the lea ders saw of him , as he ended up getting a flat. . . Bruce took over th e lead with Brad just a few seconds behind. Bru ce's pit was right next to home check, so as he hit the trail again, he already ha d his check . : Brad saw .Bruce on the move and coul d only think of catching h im . H e flew from his pits on down the trail , seeing only the figure ahead of him. He scattered the spo nsoring club members at home check as he turned it on . Several minutes later Cory Timms p ulled in for gas followed by Ed Zarp and Kern Park: Hot on their heels was Rich Schumaker, determined to be the first over -all "C" bike this race. Kevin Hasten was the next rider, followed by Senior Morris Norman. Kevin Hopkins had moved into the Trailbike lead. Between the Amateur and Expert group and th e Novice and Beginner group someone was out on the loop messing with the ribbon . It caused a big problem with lots of the riders just milling around ->lost. Henson caught Ogilvie just out of the pits on the second loop and a battle ensued. Bruce got off once breaking his clutch lever and lat".er got a flat. Timms was well entrenched in the third spot while Zarp , Park and Schumaker were keeping their - same positions. Norman and Charter remained OIMy by a few bikes apart. Ogil vie's flat tire finally worked its way off the rim slowing ' Bruce down, but he and Brad battled hard, extending a good lead over the rest of the pack. Hensen reached the checkered first , but Ogilvie became the over-all winner with a decision by the 4 Aces referee to disqualify Henson for not stopping at home check. Timms earned the -second heavyweight honors. Park had managed to edge out Zarp for the third over-all spot and earned the first 250cc slot. Schumaker was the dominating "C" bike with his over-all "C" bike win and also class win. Following him past' the checkered was Heavyweight Sixberry. Norman got the Senior win and Hopkins pulled in to the finish still holding on to the first Trail spot. Five of the sidehacks managed to finish one loop . All of them were sure that was not a sidehack course! ' In the afternoon the sponsoring club helda special race for kids. The entry fees were donated to the J.J. McBride School for the Handicapped . This is an annual event. In the past the donations have purchased a wheel chair, some special books and visual aids. There were 16 entries ranging in age from four to 12 years old. The winner was Charlie Morris .
