Jim Lowe, riding an L Competitlon'_ye view of DeAnz8 250ec Pro winner Mark Ellis. '.32 and Cavness faded back before he DNF. The battle for first started heating up as Elliott began to prelSure Clark for the lead. The two front runners had by this time opened up quite a lead on the rest of the pack. Halfway through the mora Elliott found the hole he had been searching for and passed Clark. Clark tried repeatedly to repass Elliott in the dosing laps but was unable to force Elliott to make a mistake. Elliott took the checkered flag first ahead of Clark and Turner. Elliott shot to the front of the pack as the second moto came down Saddleback's stan hill. Holding down second place was Clark, and Turner again occupied third. This time there was no one to hold back Elliott as he began to open up a considerable lead. While some riders prefer a wild riding style, Elliott uses finesse and control to cut fast lap times. While Elliott was out stylin' in front, Turner was pushing hard on Clark. Turner looked very determined to pass as he made several runs at Clark but Clark decided he liked being ahead and refused to buckle under pressure. Elliott crossed the finish line first to collect the winner's share of the purse with second and third places belonging to Clark and Turner. Fast and furious action was the name of the game in the 250cc Pro race. Clark Jones rode his Honda CR250R to two nearly perfect moto victories to score the overall win . Jones can really fly and we wish him luck as ' he joins the privateer ranks contesting the Nationals this summer. The race . for the runner-up spot was heavily contested both motos . Trading paint and positions for two tough races were Honda-mounted Pete Snoneland , Yamaha rider Pierre Karsmakers and the dust had settled it was Gomez finishing second overall ahead of Snoneland and Karsmakers. In the waning moments of the 125cc Pro race it appeared that Suzuki rider Jim Gibson had the overall victory well in hand . But then them or breakdown blues struck and Gibson ,was forced to sit out three laps before coasting across the finish line. Even so, his first -place finish in the first moto and near demolishing of the competition in the second before breaking and scoring ninth, gave Gibson enough points to finish fifth overall. Taking home the big money, however. was Honda-mounted Bob Kline. Second went to Suzuki rider Ed Arnet and third to Huff Hadley, also riding a Suzuki. Results OPEN PRO: 1. Bob Elliott (SUll; 2. Lowe lays It on at DeAnza M X By Eddie Michetti SUNNYMEAD. Lowe is almost unbeatable in the big bore class at DeAnza , taking the win there week after week . Ellis was the man with the holeshot at the start of moto one, however, with Lowe not too far behind. The two of them diced for several laps before Lowe finally found the opening he was waiting ' for and he was soon pulling away with the lead. Ellis, in the meantime , was running into trouble . He went down on lap four and got up quickly only to discover he had damaged his mount . He pulleq off the track and missed an entire lap trying to repair the wounded machine , handing second place ' to Troy Hollis (Suz). Hollis held on to the position for little over a lap , before Greg Stone (Hus) took over. In the remaining lap , the status quo held, and Lowe finished with a strong lead. Ellis was absent from the line up for the second round . so Lowe had little trouble in running away with the event. In the early part of the race . second place was up for grabs between Rob Tolleson (Yam), who crashed in the first rnoto, and Stone , who eventually came out on top. The overall results went Lowe, Stone, Tim Lanham (Ya m ), Tolleson and Hollis. The Senior Vets class saw promoter, motocrosser, pump salesman and part -time father (mine), Ed Michetti , take his Maico to victory over a sea of yellow machines. Steve Loftin (Suz) pulled the first rnoto holeshot but Michetti was soon in the lead and pulling away. Loftin was running in the Beginner Vets class and within a few laps he found himself in a battle with Steve Symanski (Mai) for the lead of that class. Symanski came out ahead and Ray Arnold (Yam) took third. In the next round, Michetti .had a harder time. George Anderson (Suz), another Senior Vet, took the holeshot and held the lead for over half the race. But Michetti finally did get by and he went on to win the race. In the Beginners race, just about everyone had' his tum in the lead.' Symanski wound up on top again by virtue of a last lap pass on Ray Arnold and took the win. Arnold's grandson h~p~ns 10 be Mark Ellis, who rode the 250cc Pro class in addition to his Open Pro venture. His luck was slightly better in that class as he took first overall ahead of Larry Ripley and Craig Gormley. Results PEEWEE 11: 1. Noe Nava lSo2). PEEWEE 12: 1. Robert Loftin ISUll. PEEWEE 13: 1.
