It as a battle for second place in the last alf of the race when LeBlanc passed ice in the second turn of the fourth ' ap. Hice re-passed LeBlanc one lap nd three corners later, but LeBlanc ot by again in the next corner. There as still more passing back and forth hrough the next three laps . At the mish it was Seidel. Hice and LeBlanc. Off the line first in the IOOcc Novice . ain was Don Babb (Suz)' with Mike resham (Yam) and Gino MacGinniss ' Yam) in second and third . On the ourth lap. Billy Robinson (Suz) assed MacGinniss through the fifth urn and went on to pass Gresham two aps later. At the finish it was Babb in he lead, and Robinson in second. Coming around on the first lap of he I25ccJunior/Expert main was Ken ray (Hon) in the lead over John udsberry, who was also Honda· ounted. ' It was quite a battle etween the two of them and it lasted he entire race. Sudsberry really put he pressure on Gray. but fell in the mal turn after trying to go under ray. He got up to finish third . There was trouble getting the I25cc ovice main ' underway. What started s a l4·man event ended up with the ield whittled down to eight. The first wo starts were red -flagged after veral riders fell in the first turn . The third time was a charm and Don Babb Suz) was underway and out front . im Seeley (Yam), Shannon Horton Yam) and Mark Rockson (Suz) ran econd through fourth . On the second lap Horton passed Seeley, and two laps later, Seeley fell and allowed Rockson to move into th ird. Horton kept oving in on Babb , but on the last lap, fell and Rockson moved up to finish second behind Babb. It was' Steve Goss who got the holeshot · in the 250cc Novice main. but several riders went down in the first turn and the red flag was brought out. On the restart , Steve Clark (H·D). im Gollihan (Yam) and Ken Wolcott (Hon) led the way. Wolcott got by Gollihan on the sixth corner of the first lap. then took the lead from Clark in turn three, lap three . Gollihan gave · Clark a hard time for the remainder of the race but was unable to pass , so at the finish it was Wolcott, Clark and Gollihan. Gary Johnson (Yam) ~ot off ~he I~ne first in the Open NOVice mam with Lou Simpson (Yam). Bill Edwards (Yam) and Tony Zoppi (Suz) in pursuit. I o C\) Zoppi did the same to Edwards. On the next lap, both Zoppi and Edwards zapped Johnson '. Four laps into. the race . Zotti ran mto - stalled mto, actually - trouble when he killed the motor and dropped to third . On the next tour of the circuit Simpson went down but managed to retain second place. On the last lap , both Zoppi and Simpson went down so Edwards crossed the line in first over Johnson. Jerry Douglas, astride a Honda , was the first to arrive at the first turn in the Open Junior/Expert main and he had Brad Sanders' KTM and Dave Ryan's Yamaha in tow. Douglas fell back a few places, leaving Sanders in th~ le~d until Ryan slipped underneath him ~n the fifth turn . Ryan went on to wm 'with a sizeable lead . Sanders stayed in ' second. In the Old Timers/Veterans main, Gordon Miller (Tri) got the' holeshot with Bob Guthrie (Mai) in second. Jim McMahen (Mai) moved into third with Don Holt (Yam) in fourth . It wasn't too long before McMahen took over second with Holt advancing to third. On the third Ipa, McMahen overtook Miller and was followed by Holt when Miller went too wide in turn eight. Coming around on the seventh lap, Holt went down in turn one, promoting John Burwell (Yam) to second behind McMahen. • Results 80 MINI NOV: 1. Tommy Seidel IKawl; 2. Randy Hie.
