.............................. race only determined the starting position for the ma in . In the heat Ross Klatt went out on top with Mik e Garrison . Bobby Ga rabedian . Mike Redding an d Pete Hames ro undi ng out t he top five. Klatt blew a rod on the first lap so Garrison too k ove rthe top spot with Chris Cannon moving int o fifth . Hames was do ing his thing and was in third . When th e white flag came out. Hames went for it and came down low and picked off both Garabedian and Garrison for the win . Garrison. Garabedian. Redding. Cannon and Jeff Johnson were all guaranteed of a front row start with Bert Stephens. Mike Taylor. Tony Evans. Mike Paulson and Mike Minnig slated for the second row . The duel in the main looked to be between Hames and Garrison and the spectators were not disa ppointed. It was Garrison who took t he lead off the line with Hames right behind him. By the second lap the "Simi Flash" was out in front with Garrison second and Bobb y Garabedian. in third . definitely in the hunt. Two laps later Garabedian went out and Cannon moved into the top three . Hames con tinued to set a blistering pace but Garrison was hanging in there . looking for a mistake that never came. At the checkered it was Hames. Garrison. and Cannon. Paulson. Redding and Taylor finished out the top six . . The Open Money Half. Mile had a premier field as 10 of th e best tu rn ed out. Dylan Neihart powered into th e lead with Mike Minnig; Eddie San Roman and Rich Volk freight ·training behind him. Minnig . th e on ly one on a Harley. made his presence felt immediately as he flew by Neihart to take over the lead on th e second lap. By the third' lap Volk had gotten by San Roman and was riding with Neihart . On the fourth lap. Volk got a wheel under Neihart and went to second bu t Neihart came right back to reclaim the spot the next time around . From there on out they swapped back and forth while- Minnig continued to pu t daylight on the field. At the checkered it was Minnig with ease and Neihart by inc hes over Volk. The 250cc Novice goes ' had a spectrum of riders from all over California . Ed Ho from Granada Hills in his first time at. Corona put i t all together to take th e TT win from Glen Scott and Bob Waller• .both of Santa Barbara. On the half mile it was Corona regular Randy Howard that aced the Santa Barbara twosome. . Double wins were picked up by Roger Thompson in the Mini Experts and Steve Mainini in the Open No vices while Mike Garrison added the 125cc Combo TT to his Money win.
