All of these undesira bles couldn't ". .. . .." / ", . ,... and d idn't stop 58 brave , ru gged and det erminted O ld Timers. Donn ing th eir thermals, inject ing at least a do zen cu ps of hot , hot coffee within , we charged off to meet a t the Dunes. Practice started with p lent y of whoopde-docs. However , these then turned into a series of deep gullies by th e start of the second rnoto . Some of us O ld Timers even got a closer look at these gullies - u nfortunately it was in a very - p ron e position. The Masters division was a real battl e between Marshall J ennings and Blackie Lewis. In moto one , Bla ckie blasted into the lead and he main ta ined th is for three laps , but then J ennings took over. Ma rshall held this lea d rig h t up until the very las t lap , wh en B la ck ie m anaged to slip by Marsh all to take th e moto. Mot a two sa w Blackie again takin g the holesh ot a nd maintain in g it for two laps. At this tim e , it was J ennings who took a little water and mud to find a better lin e . Marshall t hen took the lead and th e mota . . Q uite an unusual occurence happened in th e Seni or Expert s. Chuck Woody was really in th ere taking the holeshot and flying . Later , in a n a tt empt to pass Bob Millner , his front wheel hit ' Millner's rear wh eel wh ich resu lted in Chuck being thrown into a pool of mud and water. Woody got to his feet and began' to ch ase his motorcycle wh ich was locked togeth er with Bob's . Wretched luck , but the re were better things in sto re for Woody in m ota two . Anyway, in moto one it was Ray Sanchez who came across with the win , Sam J on es was in th ere for second , a nd Don Bu ol zeroed in for third place. Ra y Sanchez took the lead in moto two bu t lost it after one la p to W oody. Chuck then took command and held it until victo ry. Following Chuck for second pla ce was Dick Frampton , and Don Jensen came in for th ird . Frampton was the overall winner. Experts Bob Crandall and Tom W id ick battl ed it out for fir st and second p laces in both m ot os. Bob took first place in mota one and he came in second in in oto two . Nice arrangement th ey had. Tom took seco nd in m oto one and a firs t in m ota two for th e class win . Ed Scheidler took thi rd in m ota on e and Dave flut ehens won th e third place in mota two . . Bill Lyons , with some real good rid ing, placed first in m o to one in th e firs t Amateur mota . Ash er Larnkjaer fought his way into second place, and John Webb stayed in there to claim third place. Larnkjaer displayed some fine ridi ng in mota two - good enough to take first place . Lyons took second and Joe Bray was there for third place. . No vices started out with Wayne Powell .taking the holeshot , Bu t his Husky sta lled in th e firs t turn and Dave Col1ins took his lead . Then it was Dan Harris who took the lead and he went on to ta ke the win also . Dave Collins stayed in there for second , Dan Kawashima was there for th ird , and: Bill Ryan took fourth place. Mota two began with Powell taking the holeshot once again , th is time for keeps. Wayne really got to show his stuff and he took the first place. Collins cam e in for a good second and the overall win , Ryan took th ird, and Kawashima was in for fourth place. • NEW! TRICK!
