Off to the south , huge thunderheads were build ing , so we decided to try and beat the weather off the mountain . It was no place to be when there's any cha nce of lightning. An h ou r after we had cleared the mou nt ain, Mother Nature really got mad. She hit us with so much hai l, it was almost impossible to drive. . As 1 mentioned before, there is m uch private land in the area . Silverado Ca nyon proper and the road to the Monte Crisco Mine a re closed to motorized stuff, but if you like to walk , th at 's OK . You have to look sharp for the no -no signs, as most are old , small and easy to miss. T he following m aps will be very helpful: Toiya be National Forest (Alpine, W est Walke r a nd Bridgeport Districts) an d also these USGS topo maps, Bridgeport , California ,Nevada and th e Fales Hot Springs, Cal ifornia , Nevada Qu ad ra ngles.
