Troy Strausen (Yam) third . Seidel was proving his talent was tops as he took the turns just right and refused to allow Azeveda to get by. Timmy Aiston (Kaw) jammed to the lead of the lOOcc Mini Junior/Expert heat with Billy Brazil (Suz) in second. Aiston had the power and wasn't about to let Brazil get close to him . In the. IOOcc Novice sportsman go Jimmy Souza (Suz) , John Roitinger (Yam ) and Mike Gresham (Ya m) took command of the first three places. Roitinger tried to get under Souza several times d uring the fray but it did him no good. Ji m Horn (Suz) was first .off the line in th e first heat of the 125cc Novice class wit h J immy King (Suz) , Richie Dobbins (Suz) and Jo e Bra zil (Yam) trailing. King put t he pressure on Ho m from the start a nd was finally in a position to overtake him on the third lap . On the fourth la p , Bra zil moved into third , leaving Dob bins in fourth . At the finis h it was King, Hom , Braz il and Dobbins coming across the line in that ord er. The second l25cc Novice hea t saw a lot of passing going on with George Boelman (Suz) out fron t, followed by Don Babb (Suz) a nd Mike Archuleta (H on). Archuleta got u nde r bo th Ba bb and Boelm a n to take over the lead , b u t after only a few la ps Boelm an started having trouble and lost his position as Jeff Sm ith (Suz) and James Na il m oved into t hird and fou rth. Sm ith was unable to maintain and Nail got by him to tak e thi rd a t the finish behind Archulet a in first and Babb in second. Lex Dillman (Hon) took the lead position early on in the 250c c Novice race as Steve Goss (Suz), Tom Polito (Hon) and Steve Clark (H ·D) trailed. Polito and Cla rk zapped by Goss and kept passing each other fo r the du ra tion of the race . As th e final flag appeared , it was Dillman, Polito and Clark in that order. Monty Sears (Yam) directed the Open Novices into the opening stages of their hea t race but Tony Zoppi (Suz) moved in on him for the second go 'round. Robert McCow en (Bul) had trouble holding on to third and found Steve Whittingham ahead of him in no time . Sears tried to regain the lead but Zoppi held on tight to the finish . Dave Rya n (Yam) took command of the O pen Junior/Expert preliminary with Jim Bru baker (Mai) giving him a hard go at the whole th ing . Rya n wasn 't about to give in to Bru baker , no matter what. The main events got underway with the 80cc Min i Novice class up first. Tommy Seidel shot out in front with Mark Clark second as Troy Strauser moved into third. Strauser managed to get under Clark on the third lap but he couldn't get even close to Seidel who was way out in the lead by th is time. Thomas passed Clark on the fifth lap, causing Clark to lose a few more positions and at the finis h Seidel too k first, followed by Strauser a nd Thoma. Everyo ne wa tc hed the 80cc Ju nior / Expert final in a mazement as Timmy Aiston (to p Min i motocrosser in D·36) shot ou t to lead at th e start a nd continued to d evasta te the troops with his smooth style. By th e ti me th e chec kered came out, he was almost a full la p a head of everyone in the race. This little guy will definitely be a youngster to keep our eyes on for the next few yea rs. In the IOOcc Novice m ain event , heat winner J im my Sou za took the holeshot with Mike Gresham and John Roit in ger ho ld ing onto second a nd third . Roitinger got by for second bu t Souza was too fa r out front to catch for th e win . J im my King grabbed th e lead of th e 125cc No vice main with Jim Ho m in second. Rich ie Dobbins mo ved into th ird and Ma rk Rockson ma intained fourth . King a nd Hom battled with eac h other for the entire race . Hom pu t the p ressure on King towa rds the end and in the final lap he stole th e lead awa y. Paul Pronovost led off the 250cc Novice main event with Lex Dillman, who had won the heat race , and Ste ve Goss following . Dillman couldn't get an edge on Pronovost and the three held their positions to the fin ish. Monty Sears took the ho leshot in th e Open Novice main with Robert McCowen and Tony Zoppi r ight behind. Zoppi got under McCowen and poured it on ; he got by Sears on the seventh lap a nd left him cold at th e finish.
