RED MOUNT AIN , CA , J AN . 14 Yam a ha IT-400 mounted Harold Hol stead won Ca lifo rnia Raci ng Club's first enduro of 1979 by being the onl y rider to zero the 70 mile co urse. Harold's teammate a nd CRC number one endu ro rider Harry Keast (W heelsm ith Mai) beat Harold at the tiebreake r but H a rry dropped two points when he a rri ved early at a p reviou s check . Approximately 650 riders showed up to ta ckle the two loop enduro which was pitted at "Charlie 's " Wagon Wheel Cafe , a favo rite watering hole for mot orcycle enthusiasts . The first loop was typica l CRC in that it was fairly ea sy but fun. Five riders zeroed the loop a nd tiebreaker check to tie for ove rall honors . Tom Dyer (200 C · 16), Larry Stephan (A Mini), Jeff Schaid (C Mini) , Kevin Daniels (C Mini) and Greg T homas (125 C -16) all pu lled a perfect ride. Close behind we re first A Woman Deb bie O wens with just one second lost a nd Na ncy Wilhelm , fi rst B Woman down just two seconds . The one loop e rs we re lucky. The two loopers got to contend with rain which turned into snow towards the end of the enduro . The snow was melting as soon as it hi t but it sure created visual problems with th e' riders . Kept the dust down though. The second loop was a well la id out loop with the usu a l "Speci al Test" section to sp read the scores out a bit. T he Bobcat "Special Test" was located in the Summit Hills, more commonly referred to by the riders as the Sand Hills. The hills are a favorite loca tion for courses and C RC obliged b y running up and dawn the many canyons a nd hills at a fast 30 mph ave rage. With Keast's boo -boo dropping him down a ways , Randy Liebig (KTM) dropped just one point at t he check at the end of the section to take second overa ll. Second seems' to be Randy's number as he holds the number two p late in District 37 250cc En duro standings. T hird overall went to David Weaver who was just six seconds be hind Liebig. First Crider was Steve Wrongstand who also won the C 125 class wi rh just one point down a lso. W rongstand also beat all th e B riders whi c h should encourage him to enter as a B rider next time. First B was Dennis Daniels who took class ho nors on a 250 cc . While the riders were trying to keep warm in the rain and sn ow, th e checkers were having a tough time ma rking cards with frozen fingers. The check crews certain ly deserve credit for a job well done under adverse conditions. • DON'T MISS HOUSTON!) see the 10th Annual Motorcycle & Accessory Trade -Ex p o . . • In the Ast rohal l - adjacent to the Astrodome.
