After the open race ended , Roeseler realized that Wayne Martin had slipped by when he stopped to tie up his kickstand. He was actually laughing as he said , "Hey, I jus t blew it. I thought I had a longer lead. After Craig Adams seized his KTM , he got back in just to d ice with me. I was havi ng so much fun with Craig, I didn't pay a ny attention to W ayne." La rry wasn't th e only one not paying attention . The finish flagman missed Ma rt in and gave the checkered to Roese ler who was followed !;ly Rusry Cla rke and Jim Fishback. The 250cc race was a d ifferent story. Roese ler moved out front and that's where he stayed . T he JBS Rac ing Team of Mike Brown and John T aylor , who finished second and thi rd , mentioned that Roeseler stopped once to ta ke banners out of his wheel. He the n passed them back at a tremendou s spee d and finish ed with a two minute lead . As th e 200cc Experts and Amateurs cleared the first sharp tu m and headed for open country, th ey found a banner stretched across the course. Someone had jumped the gun by several bike lengths and a restart was called. The 'second sta rt was smooth and J im Odie quickly took the lead. The 19-year·old Escondido Suzuki rider added another win to his flawless record . Rick Rogers took second while Mark MacFarland fought off. Bill ; Whitener and Bill Holmes for third.
