·f _ was devoted to American racing. The sequel will spend 'm ore time on European racing as well as the handful of Americans who race there. "Americans don't know a lot about European racing," expla ined Don Shoemaker. "There's a lot of formalness about it. It will be a different ki nd of film ." In the sequel, as with the original , Shoemaker's camerawork will give the movie his rather ' uniq uely flavored documentary style which sometimes doesn't even look like your normal r un of the mill documentary. Brown 's movie , explains Shoemaker, because Br uce wasn 't very familiar with most of the races then , d id n 't have a chance to get " int o" their thoughts. The seq uel, on the other hand , will have m o re narrative reflections by the ' likes of Kenny Roberts , Brad Lackey and others featured in the film. On top of that, Shoemaker .pla ns to use many of the camera tricks in the new movie that made the first film so special. O f the production plans laid out so far, the company has actually " boug ht o ut" a road racing event to get some of the action footage tha t will be needed. In this case, the AFM's annual Six Hours at Onrario will be part of the movie , as specially camera -equipped road racers will line up on the sta rting grid alongside the serious go-fasters. It was a matter of expediency in produc tion values since the AMA doesn't like to have cameras and bikes (or bikes with cameras) o n the sa m e track . Outside of the visuals, the other half of the film will be the sound of motorcycli ng . Part of that sound will be no less than the voic e of Larry Huffman himself who will do the narrative. Larry, also known as " m o to rmou th ," is well known to a lot of racing fans for his speedway announcing at Costa Mesa . He has also done a fair share of movie and television work which -i ncludes Charlie's Angels, Fantasy Island, Sidewinder One and many, many radio commercials. Part of his job, in addition to describing the action in the film , will be to key the audience into what's happening. That is, to match the emotions of the viewer to the emot ional level of what's on the screen. I Using his experience from keying up his audience at tracks like Costa Mesa and the USGP at Carlsbad , Huffman will do the same for the film viewer. " Peo p le want to know . their heroes, " exp lains Larry . "They want to look up to these people , They ' want ' to say, 'Hey! That's Kenny Roberts!' " With an ace announcer and cameraman , and two experienced financial minds going fo r it , On Any Sunday II has every chance of succeed ing, According to Walden , it's budget of a million dollars is big for a featu re documentary. St ill , the world of Hollywood, and the public in general , is very unpred ictable when it comes -ro movies. Look at "guaranteed winners" like King Kong, A Bridge Too Far or F.I.S,T. Huffman had his own experiences with Sidewinder On e, of which he did the trackside announcing . It bombed. "1 don't know what happened . I guess ' people wer en 't ready for a motocross drama ." From the producer's end. James Cava naugh had hi s own th oughts. " It will be a cha llenge making the movie. Nobody will know how it will do until 'we go to th e bo x office ." , Fo r better o r worse, the cameras will st a rt roll ing on th e great est sequel to the greatest m ot orcycle documen tary made: On Any Sunday Ifs great ne ss will have to wait : howe ver , unt il it comes out and gets its cha nce for public judgement. That won 't com e until Easter, 1980 . • TheLatestNewsAnd DevebpmentsFranfultaco.TheCcxnpanyThat Buildsl\!btorcycles. And NothingEIse.
