CA . DEC . I Joh n G reen way (D G Yam ) came out to Corona Racewa y Frid ay nig ht a rmed wi th' tw o shi ny new Ya mahas and, went h ome with the top m oney in the 125 and 250cc Pro classes. At the start of 250cc moto one , he di aled his t hrottle into th e "holeshot posi tion" and pulled aw ay from Dave Eropkin (Yam) and Joe Plan te (Hon) . Plante pushed Eropkin until he fou nd a n opening on t he second lap wh ich he put to good use . For the nex t th ree la ps. Plant e gai ne d on G reenway slowly. but all his work went to was te when he sta lled his Honda in a tu rn , allowing Eropkin , Pr yor C am p b el l (Hus) and Ch ris T arvin to get by. Greenway finis hed with a healthy lea d over Eropkin . In round two . Ca m p bell gra bbrd the ho leshot with Pl an te right on his tail and Greenway right on Pla nt e's tail. -Eropkin, wasn't even on the line when the race started . but he cam e roaring out. of the pits before he lost too much time. By the second lap . the top three posit ions had reversed themselves p utting Greenway in front of Plante and Campbell . All the wa y to th e checkered flag the orde r remained . constant with Eropk in eventually in fourth . The overall win went to Greenway, with Campbell and Eropkin following . In the 125cc Pro race . Greenway had a little closer com pe tition . Both Fred Conover (Kaw) a nd Robert Gray were in front of Gr eenway a t the sta rt of rhe first bout. Gray was pu sh in g Conover hard on th e third lap when he went down in a turn , giving Greenway a crack a t th e Kawasak i p ilot. For two laps . Greenway tried every thing in th e book , but Conover would no t b e intimidated. As the race cam e int o its last la p . Greenwa y finally managed 10 slip into the lead . which he kept all t he way to th e end . G ray too k third . It was Conover in the lead again early in the next m oto , Gr eenway and Gray were locked in close ba ttle for seco nd place a he ad of Sta n Ga lvez (Suz). O n lap thre , G reenway passed Conover and im medi a tely started to pull away . When Gray tried to do the same, he ta ng led wit h Conover . who got the worst end of the deal. Conover hit Gray in mid-air and crashed hard in a high speed straightaway. No serious inj uries res ulted. but that ended Co nover's efforts for the night. Gra y chased Gr een wa y in the remaining laps, but d id little to close the d ista nce . The closest race of the night was the O pen Intermed ia te dice . The first moto went to Do n Glover (Yam) . followed by Frank Cod y (Yam), Mikey Rogoff (Yam) and Jerry Eb ling (Kaw) . T he second moto, however. was ta ken by Ebling ove r Rogoff .
