Along with th e first rider a t th e smokebornb, the G reg Meyer/Romie Taylor team were hot on Ads it 's tra il. But as bad luc k wou ld have it , they went out with engi ne p roblem s. . The te am of Claude Maynard and Pa t Flanagan wer e in with the first 10 riders at the sm oke bornb , making dust fC?r the others to follow. Right after th e bomb , though. Flanagan's from tire bl ew. Flanagan h ad to back track to ho me check and tag With Maynard . From last pos ition he managed to fly In with the swing of things . again amidst th e first -10 riders. Flanagan/ Maynard crept up to fifth overall . The Charley W elk /Matt Hope team led th e first three laps , building a six m inute advantage . As W elk was go ing into th e fou rt h lap . he turned hi s head , h itting a berm and tw isted hi m self like a pretze l. Adsi t soo n regained the lead after W elk wen t out on t h e four th lap . The Randy Hollenbeck/Paul Trelkeld team d iced the whole eight laps with Adsit/Ribley. in terch a ngi ng posi tions through th e first two laps. After that it was Adsit/ li!-ibley over Hollenbeck /Trelkeld . After a lon g absence 'R ick Secor, teamed with Paul Eddy, gav~ the war a tough battle. lodging between Adsit/ . Ribley and Hollenbeck/Threlkeld in second place on the fourth lap . On the fifth lap Secor made way for Gr eg Meyer and Don Campbell who were perched b etween Hollenbeck and Secor. , No riders demand more fro m their gear and clothing than the members ot 'Ieam Honda.
