It 's hard to get a trials shock the right way . Air is not the right system; I already knew it wouldn't work. A trials shock has to be thin, all oil, no gas or air, light, with a soft progressive spring. If it.isn't like that it isn 't goi ng to work." Though the sport of observed trials isn't growing like some thought it would, Bernie is confident about its future . "It's going up . It 's not really growing very big here, but it's circulating. People everywhere know about it now . If you had asked somebody five years ago - somebody who maybe raced motocross or had a bike - what a trials was, they wouldn't know . You ask somebody today what a trials is, at least they've heard of it , or read about it" or know what it is. I think it has a chance to grow. You 've just got to publicize it; put it on TV like they do inEurope ." The conversation concluded with Bernie exp ressing his hopes for '79 .
