By the third lap. however. it had become a two ·wa y battle as Griewe and W ilkinson proved they knew their wa y around the stadium style Corona track . Wilkinson was just trying a little too hard and he went down . but luckily he had built up such a lead that he only lost two places while trying to restart his red machine. In the remaining laps. he worked his way back up to second . but Griewe was long gone . The next moto was Wilkinson stri ke back by pulling the holeshot and slowly creating distance betw een . himself and Griewe, In this moto, it was Griewe's turn for bad luck and he crashed on the third lap . Don Jackson (Hus) was more than happy to take over second p lace spot , alt hough he was a considerable distance behind Wilkinson. When the checkers ca me out , they saw Wilkinson still in front followed by Jackson . Dameron and Griewe. Griewe still got second overall ahead of Jackson . . The 250cc Pro class saw David Williams (Mai) return to the limelight in spite of some pressure from Danny Burtt (Suz) . In rou n d one action . Williams and Burtt ran away from th e . rest of the pack. Burtt hung right on to th e Maico pilot's rear fender for the first half of the race , then he began toslack off, apparently saving energy for the next moto . When time for that next moto came around. it was Burtt out in front . In the first two laps of the race . Burtt and Williams p ut a huge distance between themselves and third place. Williams waited patiently for Burtt to make a m istake and when it happened . he was right there to take advantage of it. For the rest of the race . Williams pulled slowly out into the lead while Burtt took it easy in second. Pryor Campbell (Suz) finished a distant third while Nick Peltzer. (Yam ) and Dave Coyle rounded out the top five. In the overall results . Peltzer was th ird behind Williams and Burtt. A small 125cc Pro class saw Robert Gray (Ya m) put an end to Danny Burtt's incred ib le winning streak when the Suz uki p ilot crashed in the second moro . Resu lts . M INI NOV : 1. Curtis Can non made a couple of laps first moto sounding like his little screamer was turning all of 15,000 rpm and we're not exaggerating. Second moto he was really working on Thompson. but dropped it on the hill. got go ing again and worked his way back on up to a second , really hustling through the pack. Bud Carroll may be number one again but Darren Hulbert was all over him in the first two motos of th e 125cc Amateur/Expert go . taking a quicker 'Iine up the hill , but Bud got it together last round and beat out Darren . While t h ese two were up front , two motocrossers visiting for the day were having fun behind . La rry Marino (Yam ) and Ed Dougan (Suz) were having a blast going against ea ch other .
