Mountains. The ride was a long 7' 232 mile kidney jolting, bun busting trip ranging in elevation from 1 000 feet to a little over , 7.600. Once upon a time Death Valley was a lake. 100 mi. long and 600 ft. deep. 18 We had ridden m any miles in th e Mammoth a nd Owens Valley area and looked lon gingl y at th e possibilities of a ride here . The vehicles wou!d carry extra gas, food , water. campmg gear and spare th is and that . Two vehicles were us ed for a trio of re asons; ' regardless of what the Auto Club says~ there is no guarantee of gas or water' anywhere on this trip. A couple ~of bik es had a range of 75 miles or l~~ and ga s and wat er cans do take up a' lit tle space. The other reason I'll cover la ter. The route I selected would be a' loo p wh ich spli t the 232 miles t!' approxim a tel y 114 miles on day one' and 118 miles the next. "'~ Now. " T he fi rst annual Death Valley , Saline Valley, start and end in Darwin, ca rry our. own gear, sleep in ' the dirt. motorcycle ride" was dialed l , in.
