OCT . 27 Chuck Loftin . piloting a CR· 250 Honda , netted the overall Intermediate trophy after putting together a couple of wins on the Capitol City Night Motocross track. Bill Kasson led both motos of the com bined 250cc -Open No vice class . bu t he pulled off the track on the last lap of th e last moto , giving up th e Open win to J oaquin Effinger a nd the 250cc . Novice win went to Ga ry Estlack. Stea dy. fast riding gave Mike Farmer th e overa ll in th e Expert class. Du e to a lack of entries in the O pen class. th e 250cc a nd O pe n Novice classes were ru n toget he r and scored separately. Joe McN ama ra grabbed the holeshor over J eff Ellis. Ga ry Mitchell. Bill Kasson . Ga ry Estla ck a nd J oaquin Effinger. but Kasson (KT M) was challenging for his spo t. The Open bikes set the pace when Kasson pulled awa y from t he pa ck as McNamara and Effinger followed. There was a big lag aft er th e three Open cla ss riders and a battle raged for first pla ce in the 250cc class. Laton Hearst had led the 250s for a few lap s. but faded as J eff Ellis took over. followed by Hearst. James Campbell and Gary Estlack in tight format ion . There were no cha nges in th e' first three Open cla ss positions . Meanwhile. Estlack had closed in on Ellis' tail but they both let He arst an d Campbell by on th e wh ite nag lap . Hearst won th e moto b ut not without a last comer pa ssing effort by Estlack at the finish . which was close but in vain. Campbell finished th ird and Ellis took fourth . Bill Kasson led th e second moro from the start to where he pulled off on the last lap . McNamara and Joaquin Effinger clashed in a tight one-on -one battle for second and crashed at the m idway point. Effinger was qu ickest at getting back on the track and he pulled off for the O pen win as Kasson pulled off a DNF. McNamara earned a second overa ll. Hea rst got a great start in the secon d 250cc Novice moto with Estlack, Ellis an d Larry H all tu cked in be hind . Estlack took the lead on the fourt h la p and rode on to fin ish first while Hearst kept fading till Ellis and Hall had passed him before the final nag . The orde r of fin ish was Esrlack, Ellis. Hall a nd Hea rst. Ron Pom eroy. of Yakima , Washington . sho wed up to challenge the Aust in a rea Exp erts on a Honda . The first moto had Pom eroy leading from th e start but no t without some close com petitio n from Mike Farmer (Yam) of Austin . Pom eroy won the moto with Ronny T aylor eventually overtakin g Farmer on t he last lap for seco nd. Once again Pom eroy took th e lea d in th e second m oto but it was sho rt lived as he clash ed with Farmer in a back section and went down . bending his bars. which ga ve him a second moto DNF. T he ra ce for the Expert money became a Farmer/Taylor battle as the pair swapped the lead several tim es u nt il Taylor fell and ended up too far back to challenge Farmer. who won the Expert race overall.
