The jolt of the jump knocked both feet off his pegs and sent him spiraling down to an unexpected meeting with good 01' mother earth below. Luckily Guth escaped major injury but was !h~ken up by the play enough to pack 11 In and go home . Guth's misfortune gave Jean the lead who held it down to fin ish number one with Eropkin taking second and Dan Paulson third . With Guth out of the second moto contest the race for top money fell to Eropkin and Jean . Off the line Jean copped the holeshot and led Eropkin through seven laps of tight racing. Eropkin caught Jean at each comer and eventually found a line by, in the closing laps of the race. Jean put the pressure on Eropkin just as Eropkin had done to him. Unfortunately for Jean , it was too late in the race to have time to efficiently re -group and present a persuasive attack so the final flag ushered Eropkin home first and Jean second , which put Eropkin in line for the top money ' and Jean with second overall. Dan Paulson ran most of the race with a flat tire bu t still held his position for third overall . Gary Scheidler wen t , home the overall victor in the 125 Pro race. He aced the holeshot and held the lead winning both motos over second overall Glenn Elliott. Denton dashing at Motorcycles - Pans - Service . 605 Frwy _at Carson CMC OCIR night 11747 E. The sounds of two different types of engines were roaring .in the night. Gary Denton is probably the fastest CMC nighttime rac er . He faced a small -but -fast 250 cc Pro class a nd ende d up out -dicing five ot hers fo r th e title a nd mon ey. All th ree of th e Pro classes fire d off in the third race of the night and Denton shot out ahead on his .Suz!!ki We,st-prepared bike. Andy Guth and Robert Reisinger were battling for the second place spot when Guth crossed his lines and Reisinger ran into his back tire . This caused Robert to fall off of his Kawasaki and actually high-side. Denton continued , to soar out ahead while Guth ran behind in second and Ron Stablein managed third . . Denton captured two first place wins and at the end of the night received the 250cc Pro check from Stu Peters. Guth won the second place dollars over Stablein, Reisinger and Skip Blake. By Elaine Jones CORONA , CA , NOV . 2 The weather said winter had arrived and along with it came a • track that th e riders could really hook up with for some good close ra cing. Mike Minnig got things sta rt ed as he took on all co mers in the Money TT. Klatt, who had been Minnig's biggest headache, broke in practice so Minnig had things pretty much his own wa y as he took the lead from the start and never looked back. Shawn Liepold , who makes the long trek from Taft to race at Corona . ran' a good solid second but was unable to catch Minnig and third place Mike Paulson was obviously still trying to get acquainted with his new 500cc. ¥ike Redding and Dylan Neihart ended up in a match race in the 250cc Money half mile when Klatt and Pete Hames had to scratch because of mechanical problems. Neihart almost followed suit when he came up with a bad ring but was able to make t1ie necessary repairs and showed up on the line; Redding got the holeshot a led the way until ehe white flag when Neihart got under Redding and won the drag race to the checkered with a piston that was slapping so bad It sounded like an audience applauding. A good , field of big bikes were on hand with Danny Perkins, Mike Minnig, ~ayne Rainey, John Lundgren, Mike Paulson, Don Waffle and Mike Dennis , a visitor from Canada, all ready to m ix ' it up in the Money half mile, Off the line it was Minnig taking the lead followed by Perkins and Rainey . Perkins was in command by the second lap but things ~e:e far from over: On the fourth lap It tightened up a bit as Rainey slipped under Minnig to take over second. On the sevent h lap Rainey found a hoie and disposed of Perkins and the lead was his . It was very short lived because between turns one and two , Rainey's chain came off and it was all over . Perkins retook the lead and stayed there the remaining seven laps with Minnig right on his tail for second wiih Mike Paulson third . rn Although Pete Hames was without his own wheels, he took a crack at . riding Danny Perkins' big bike in the Open half mile and it didn't take him long to make his presence fell. At the drop of the flat it was Dave Peters ou t fr0!1t, .which is where he ususally i , ThIS time, however, Hames rewrote ' -the 'scrip t blasting by to take the lelia on the second lap. From there on out the race belonged to Hames witli Peters putting the lock on second] Mike Dennis had to work a little !iit harder for the third but was able to get around Don Waffle with two laps to go and then hold him off. Peters didn't go home empty handed as he came up with the Open TT using his six -foot size to full advantage. Steve Eldredge and Ron Sheets were second and third . . Rodney Rainey d isplayed a lot of big brother's riding style in winning the 250cc Novice half mile. It was a wire to wire romp for the younger Ra iney but not so for the second place battle. Rob Hassey had second through most of the race, holding Scott Bullard at bay until the white flag lap when Bullard pulled even with Hassay and got the edge he needed to bring it home.
