Trujillo managed to reg ain th e lead onl y to be passed up by a determ ined DelC arlo who held on for th e win . Trujillo got the overall win because DelC a rlo had fin ished third in t he first moto, Most of th e riders sa id the track was fun. but a little hard to pass on and kin d of slow . OCT. 28 This was a fir st for the So Cal Ol d T imers. 32 of us arrived to find a motocross track that pleased just about everyone. What more could you ask for -3000 feet above sea level . surrounded by trees and fresh air , we do nned ou r red jerseys and leathers to ri de one of the best tracks arou nd. W inding up an d a rou nd the trees. rolling over the nice hill jum p and heading for the long down hill run , the O ld T im ers found the terrain to be fast and fun . " In th e Mast ers class it was Moving Marve with a I - I score tak ing the overall win . .Da ve McCoy. riding a Maico out .of Mammoth Lak e , is a 68 · yearold wizard on the track . He's re a lly some thi ng to watch . att acking eac h rac e with speed and smooth rid ing ability : He took 3-2 m o tes and th e seco nd p lac e ove ra ll trophy. Ron Miller (Yam) ca rne-in with a 2-3 wh ich was good enough for third . Expert Chuck W oody Sen io r grabbed th at big num ber one slot with a 3·1 as Don J ense n and Ken W illiam s lined up for second and third . T he Experts were given lessons on h ow to win a race by T om Widich (Yam) , lea ving Don Ra ke a nd Bill Bird lined up for t he ne xt two slots . Amateu r Bob Crundall too k a couple of I -I m ote s to the finish as John Sa id (Mai) sett led for second with RENO . NV , OCT. 29 Motocross fa ns witnessed an excel le n t performance b y All en . Berluti of R en o as he cruised to four co nvincing victo ries in the sparsely attended 250cc a nd O pen Expe rt classes . O n ly 13 Experts sho wed up at th e Reno Fa irgrounds . resulting in a genera l la ck of close co m peti tion . Berlu ri go t the holeshot in the first 250cc Expert race. but didn't open an ext rem ely wid e lead unt il th e second lap . He didn't waste any tim e in the second moto though it was ob vious he ha d no co mpet ition afte r halfwa y through. the fir st lap . Scott Strom berg finished a reason able d ista nce a hea d of Rodney Gin n in bot h m oros for seco nd overa ll. Jeff Cloutier hol esh ot th e firs t O pen Expe rt m oto bu t. as he was ai rborne ove r a jump on the seco nd la p . Berluri kep t his tires o n the grou nd and blew by C loutier. While Berluti o nce again opene d a wide lead . a ge nu ine ba tt le fo r seco nd wa s brew in g be t wee n Cloutier and Dick Bu tt ner. Clou tier barely held onto his lead to event ua lly finis h on e seco nd ahead of Buttner .' . Berlu ti was th ird ou t of the first tu rn in the second Open moto , but after three-quarters of th e firs t lap he was pull ing awa y from t he pa ck . O nce lEW oi)!
