"The Team Manager says the slide 's not opening enouqhl " Team Honda 's Warren Reid clinched ' the 1978 Trans·AMA MX Series 250c c Support class crown with a seventh overall finish at Sears Point. Brae Glover, who was within 16 points of Reid , finished ninth overall at Sears. The final margin was 21 points, 266 · 245 . Tri-Cross promoters Ron Hendrickson and Ted Moorewood were seen talki ng with AMA Commissioner of Professional Racing M ike DiPrete at Sears Point. Together they were plotting three AMA MX Progressive Pro series for California next year. They'll be three-race series; they'll lead into the three Supercross ' events, and top placers from each of the 125, 250 and 500cc classes will qualify f or the Supercross events. Details have not yet been worked out. but they've promised to give Papa the inside line as soon as it's all decided. T he 197 9 Continenta l Mo te-sports Club / Suzuki Golden St ate Series is on for '79. The seven -race motocross series starts Jan . 6 at Saddleback Pa rk, then visits on succeeding weekends: Du nlop Cycle Park (near Fresno), Indian Du nes, Car lsbad. Prairie City OH V P a r k , Clovis Lakes ( near Fresno) , and H uron Cycle Park (also nea r Fresno) . Each event will -have a ' $3 ,000 pu rse, a Sa turday race for Juniors a nd Intermedia tes, and U.S. Suzuki is pu tting up $3 ,000 in point fu nd mon ey. Last year's CMC/Suzuki Golden State Series saw, as you will doubtless remember, the start of the rise to prominence by one Darrell Shultz, who this year went from local unknown to Trans-AMA winner.
