I that finding and personally see ' no I to punue the matter further. I not allow the Federal Government to overly influence my judgement in this matter. ' What" are your feelings with respect a to motorcycle education and ~ training? I feel that motorcycle safety awareness ,,~ through motorcycle education and training will be far more effective in reducing motorcycle accidents than any attempt to mandate so-called • safety regulations. . ~ The Off Highway Vehicle Program, ad.inutered by State Parka I: n lleaation . u nry improrallt and ~ t lD off-.-den bea_ it iI -t their "Ie1f-illlpmed laS" 10 be ued in need .w ill 650 great reasons 10 iaake your best deal DOW on the • .I Champ. Wbat '( would be your reaction. to such a I request if you were elected Governor? While I am opposed to the creation of new agencies which increase the size of government. I am not opposed to giving old programs new emphasis. I ~ would certainly consider the legitimate needs of off'-road ve h icl es and , restructure the department if this was required to effectively administer the ~ .program. ') W itb respect to tbe previous staterr ments regarding tbe Off Highway ., Vebicle Program. tbe off-roaden ~rlfeel that tbe present Department of n' Parks &: Recreation places too much ~r emphasia on "parks" and very little on "recreation." We feel that tbia 11 imbalance ia due to tbe present appointments - to key positions of • people that interject their own 1 personal preferences as "perceived priorities" rather than liatening to the demands of the user-public. If Is elected, will you make appointments zi of managen to these agencies or should we expect to see a . continuation of the present practice '81 of paying off political favon? . U I expect to make appointments based Is upon the knowledge and qualifications '{'I of appointees and not upon :n preconceived priorities. r W ha t are your personal feelings about freeway construction? h The people of the state who use the highways are taxed to support the freeway system . This is the people's money and it should be used to maintain, support. and complete the freeway system as it was int ended . The I highways are needed for a healthy economy and a growing population. Motorcycles are highly fuel-cfficient, 2 and many persons would commute by motorcycle if there were proper incentives, such as reduced toll bridge fares, DIe of special lanes designated for car pools, reduction of road surface hazards such as iron grating and grooved pavement. What would be your reaction to our , requests for luch incentives from the regulatory agencies? Motorcycles are licensed vehicles and should not be discriminated against. I [would support any program which ' made their use more safe and convenient. IO T ha n k you, General Younger. Do ·{t you have anything further to add? ., Only th is: The motorcyclists need a o new Governor. and for the most part, they need new heads of the . agencies which regulate them. This will only come about if I receive their vote on November 7. I hope your readers will keep this foremost in their minds when they go to the polls on Election Day . FREE Fairiag. ~ 00 1-0 IU ..0 .
