The trouble started two months ago
when Mike crashed at Costa Mesa ,
tearing the muscles loose in his
th en rode the last qualifying rounds to
get into the Cham pionship. W hil e.J1e
was racing up north, he was hun again
after running into the crash wall and
splitting his knee open. He took a week
off and came right back to win the
California State Championship at-S an
Bern a rd ino . even though it was all lie
could do to walk . But the worst was yet
to come.
