The
organization is named the Off Road
Vehicle Coalition (ORVC) and was
created to provide the means by which
motorcycle riders may become
informed on the issues affecting them.
Once the riders are informed, the
ORVC will help them use that
information where it will do the most
good.
There have been many such
organizations for motorcycle riders.
Why does the ORVC think they will be
any different? Because, no other
organization has what the ORVC has.
Names.
There are over a million and a half
motorcycle riders in the state of
Californ ia . Many of them belong to
organizations such as the AMA , CMC ,
MMA and a couple of thousand
assorted clubs and enthusiast groups.
Many riders belong to one or two of
these groups and a few belong to as
many as they can join but the average
motorcycle rider doesn 't belong to any
of them.
This creates a problem. If the
AMA, for instance , discovers a
situation they think people should
know about, they will send a letter to
each member and print the story in
their membership magazine. The
trouble is, the only people who find
out about the situation are AMA
members since they are the only ones
on the mailing list. The same holds
true for magazines and newspapers.
They have only a limited amount of
people they can reach.
This is where the Off Road Vehicle
Coalition comes in . The ORVC ha s
con tacted the AMA, CMC and
others, along with motorcycle
magazines and newspapers , and have
been given a copy of these
organizations' mailing lists. The lists
were fed into a computer to be
checked for duplicates and, so far, the
OR VC has over a quarter of a million
names on its mailing list. When the list
is complete, the ORVC hopes to have
the name and a ddress of every
motorcycle owner in the state. Then;
when an election comes up , or if
anot her motorcycle o rganization
wan ts to get information ou t to
everybody, the OR VC_will ha ve the
means to do it. Every motorcycle rider
in Californ ia will know how and why
rvery other motorcyclist is going to
vote at an election. This way, they can
all vote for the .same thing, provided
hey agree on the issue. .
This is where the ORVC continues
to be of importance. For the past few
weeks, members of the ORVC have
been interviewing candidates who will
be running in the Nov. 7 election.
.They have asked specific questions as
to how the candidate feels about
<-motorcycles. The ORVC has also been
Going behind-the-scenes research on
the various candidates, checking their
' past voting records and trying to
determine if what they say they do is
really what they 've been doing. The
.results of their labors will be discussed
in next week's article when you will
learn who to vote for and why.
~j.The Off Road Vehicle Coalition has
oilly been in operation for a short time
tiring which they have been busy
o m p il in g and organizi n g their

November a great many motorcycle
Jiders will have recei ved a pa mphlet in
